More than two dozen people were injured late Tuesday night when a bus and a car collided on Interstate 75 about two miles north of the Cygnet Road exit in southern Wood County.
All individuals in both vehicles were from Toledo, according to the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred in the northbound lanes about 10:30 p.m. when a 2001 Bluebird bus driven by Isaac M. Starks, 49, struck a 2005 Toyota Camry driven by Sara A. Limpkins, 26, in the rear. The patrol reported the Limpkins vehicle had slowed in traffic. The patrol is investigating the possibility that a third vehicle in the left lane possibly caused the crash by making an unsafe lane change.
The bus, carrying 30 passengers, was transporting workers from the Consolidated Biscuit cookie factory in McComb to Toledo. Nineteen of the passengers were taken to area hospitals for treatment. There were seven people in the Camry, with all being taken to hospitals for treatment.
A passenger on the bus, Marquan C. Williams, 18, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, by air ambulance. Passenger Allen G. Harkins, Toledo, also ended up at St. Vincent, the patrol reported. Neither were listed as patients at the hospital this morning.
From the car, Limpkins; Banita M. Johnson, 40; Diamond A. Limpkins-Welsh, 5; Zecarri A. Chea, 7 months; and Damarion M. Huggins, 2, were taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay, for treatment. Darnell D. Welch, 23, and Daronita Donelson, 13, were all taken to Wood County Hospital for treatment.
At least 10 fire and EMS agencies were called to aid at the scene.
The northbound lanes were closed about two hours.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the patrol at (419) 352-2481.
