Eight people have indicated their interest in filling the vacant Fourth Ward seat on Bowling Green City Council.
The list includes both candidates who had filed for the seat in the November election and three former members of city council.
Council President John Zanfardino said this morning that council plans to make a decision at tonight's meeting, which starts at 7.
Zanfardino said the plan is to give each person three minutes to make their case and then answer questions from members of council.
"We hope to get this resolved tonight. The first to get four or more votes will take the seat," Zanfardino said.
The winner will take the oath of office as soon as the decision is made.
The eight are:
• Theresa Charters Gavarone, the Republican nominee on the November ballot.
• Robert J. Piasecki Jr., the Democratic nominee on the November ballot.
• Roger Anderson, Bill Blair and Bill Herald, all former members of council, and Paul Collins, Jaci Nowicki and Brent Stewart.
The seat was vacated June 18 when Greg Robinette submitted his resignation. Robinette, who is serving with the Ohio Army National Guard in Kuwait, had earlier taken a leave of absence from council. Robinette decided to resign when he learned the length of his overseas assignment was likely to be longer than his term, which ends Dec. 31 of this year.
The victor among the eight candidates will serve the unexpired term.
