Citizen requests to retain the former Bowling Green High School/Junior High School site as green space will receive consideration after Bowling Green City Council receives background material for its review.
Sunset Drive resident Wally Pretzer and West Wooster Street resident Gail Nader told council the green space created by the demolition is an asset and suggested the city not follow through with long-range plans to build a new city building on the site.
Pretzer said the open space shows off some of the historic homes on West Wooster Street and gives the city a square, found in Ohio communities such as Medina, Bryan and Hudson.
"Bowling Green needs a city square for things like a band stand, a gazebo, maybe a mural on the side of the First Presbyterian Church. Some sidewalks and benches would be nice, it could be used for space for art displays and maybe by the Black Swamp Arts Festival," Pretzer said.

After months of mounting friction, it appears Bowling Green State University and its faculty union may have moved closer to a first contract.
The administration and faculty union announced this morning that they have reached an agreement in principle on the union contract.
Details are being finalized and must be ratified by the union’s membership and approved by the BGSU Board of Trustees.
Meanwhile, the administration’s controversial proposal to cut faculty is moving forward.
Dave Kielmeyer, spokesman for BGSU, said this morning that the administration’s effort to terminate 100 faculty members is going ahead as planned. The administration has the right to make such cuts, though the effects of the cuts must be negotiated, he said.
“We are still finalizing the details of the effects bargaining,” Kielmeyer said.
But both sides praised the first contract proposal that must now be approved by faculty members and the BGSU Board of Trustees.

The Child Care Center at the Perrysburg Township campus of Owens Community College will be shuttered later this spring.
The Owens community, center staff, and parents using the center were notified of the situation Thursday.
"It is with heavy heart that Owens Community College is going to be closing the Child Care Center on the Toledo-area campus as of June 30, 2013," said Brad Meyer, director of public and media relations at Owens, in an interview this morning.
The reason for the closure is financial, he said, indicating that the college has been required to subsidize operations at the center, but "we are no longer able to absorb financial losses" at the facility while maintaining the expected quality of service.
The center's fiscal year 2013 losses are expected to top $340,000 by June 30, the end of FY 2013.
The center provides care for 94 children, focusing on the ages of 6 weeks to 6 months during the school year, and to school-age children up to age 8 during the summer. It is open to faculty, staff, students, and community members.

PERRYSBURG - For Don Beaudry, firefighting is truly a family affair.
Recently retired as a volunteer captain from the Perrysburg Fire Division after 35 years, Beaudry, his father, and one daughter, have all felt the call to serve by fighting the flames.
Beaudry's father was stationed at a Naval air base in Texas during the Korean war, and served as a firefighter.
"And I heard him ask about some stuff that he did," Beaudry said. Those stories lit a spark that kept burning.
Originally from south Toledo, the 1973 Bowsher High School graduate began working as a volunteer firefighter with Perrysburg during the Blizzard of '78. He expanded his knowledge in the field, attending fire school at Bowling Green State University and the Northwest Ohio Volunteer Weekend School. He even trained in hazardous materials handling. He also served as an EMT for approximately four years.
