D&R Demolition of Archbold is the apparent low bidder to demolish the swimming pool at Bowling Green City Park.
D&R's bid of $71,500 was the lowest of three submitted and opened Friday afternoon at the City Administrative Services Building.
The engineering estimate on the demolition was $90,000.
D&R is the same firm that has demolished the Senior/Junior High School and Central Administration buildings and the Popular Culture House at Bowling Green State University.
The second low bid of $77,700 was submitted by Baumann Enterprises of Garfield Heights; while the third bid was $88,000, submitted by B & B Wrecking of Cleveland.
Awarding of the bid is subject to review by the city and Brandstetter Carroll, Cincinnati, the engineering firm handling the pool project for the city.
The pool season will end Aug. 19. That evening a special event, Rock the Pool One More Time, is planned to celebrate the pool and raise funds to help with some amenities for the new pool.
Demolition should begin late in the month.
Bids for the new pool are to be opened at the end of August with construction starting in September. An opening date of June 1, 2013 is projected.
At the March 6 primary election Bowling Green voters approved a .6-mill bond levy, to run 20 years, to pay for the new pool by a 57 to 43 percent margin.

Oh, please. Their eyes were already bigger than their stomachs and they already announced that they were going to be over-budget. It will be interesting how they plan to spin this. Either it will be "Ooh....we weren't over budget as much as we thought we would be," or "Oh goody....we can spend more." Never will you hear "let's give money back to the taxpayers, and make the BG Swim Club pay for something that you and I don't want.
