Business on Bowling Green's South Main Street has undergone a commercial renaissance of sorts. Over the last year, several businesses have located to Bowling Green's south end, filling in previously vacant storefronts. "It's just so exciting to see additional businesses locate to our south side of town," said Earlene Kilpatrick, Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce director. The area, Kilpatrick said, is strategically situated on Ohio 25 just off Interstate 75 and U.S. 6. It also caters to commuters and residents on that side of town. "Any retailers, restaurants and entities that add to our business base is a positive for our economic base," she said. "Business shapes our quality of life. It creates jobs. It strengthens our tax base." T.J. Maxx is the latest retailer to locate to The Shoppes on South Main across from Walmart. The grand opening is scheduled for Sept.9, according to the store's website. Messages seeking comment from a T.J. Maxx spokesperson were not returned. Kilpatrick said there are other potential businesses which may locate to South Main, but she could not disclose specifics. Staples plans to move from its current location to The Shoppes by January.
Staples and T.J. Maxx will join Petco, Maurices, Sally Beauty Supply, Shoe Sensation, Dollar General, Time Warner and Banner Mattress on the strip. In the same plaza, three stores: Radio Shack, Great Clips and Urgent Care have opened their doors in the former Movie Gallery site. Also on the south end, Family Video has taken over the former Blockbuster location. In that same strip, a martial arts studio has assumed some of the space formerly belonging to the Hallmark store.

Now if they'd just bring Gabriel Brothers (Gabe's) to the area. Same modus operandi--name brands, off season, low prices. (Nobody looking at me can tell whether the Kenneth Cole boots I'm wearing came from a high-end store at $130 or from Gabes's at $30. These stores do NOT sell "junk".) Closest Gabe's is in Mansfield or Mentor (one of those M towns) and it's just too costly to drive there regularly.
Now--how does one get a job at any of the stores listed in the article? I see they've opened, but not once have I seen a want ad in the Sentinel.
