BG Winterfest is back in full force with its fifth annual winter-themed event.
This three-day festival will be held Friday through Sunday at various locations around the Bowling Green community, offering more than 30 events for community members of all ages to participate in.
Activities back by popular demand include the Red Cross Fire & Ice fundraiser, the Chili and Soup Cook Off, BG Parks and Rec Frost Bite Run and the Ice Garden, featuring an interactive photo area. Last year's ice castle was a popular attraction, and an ice sculpture will be included this year as well.
The Fire & Ice event from 7 to 11 Friday night at the Cla-Zel will feature the auction of a special glass art bowl hand-crafted by the Bowling Green State University Glass Art Department especially for the event.
Students Mitchell Noah and Mark Borsz used an Italian glass blowing technique - encalmo - to make the work. Encalmo means joining two or more different glass bubbles together to make a glass art piece.
New to Winterfest will be a Tri-State Skating Competition at the BGSU Ice Arena, OHSAA Wresting Tournament at the Stroh Center, a Heritage Corners event downtown, a downtown retail open house, and a BG Arts Council Sandwich Stroll featuring downtown restaurants.
The Bowling Green Bobcats Softball/BG 14U team will host a pancake breakfast on Saturday at the Bowling Green High School cafeteria from 8 to 11 a.m.  The cost is $6.50 for adults and $4.50 for children 12 and under, while children under 4 are free.
Also that day, Bowling Green Parks and Recreation will hold Winterfest Snow Games from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. for children 13 and under. Participants can drop in anytime, with check-in at the Scout Building. There will be outdoor and indoor events. For more information, call (419) 354-6223 or visit www.bgohio.org.
BG Parks will additionally present the Fifth Annual Frostbite One Mile Fun Run at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the City Park. Awards will be given to overall male and female adult and youth categories, and all pre-registered participants will receive a long-sleeved t-shirt. Cost is $25, or $12 with no shirt. To register, or for more information, visit www.bgohio,org or call (419) 354-6223.
The Bowling Green Bobcats Volleyball Team will host a spaghetti fest on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the BGSU Ice Area Lounge. The cost is $7 for spaghetti, salad, breadsticks and a beverage.
