The city of Bowling Green will have a new fire chief later this summer.
At Monday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Richard Edwards introduced Capt. Tom Sanderson, who will succeed
current chief Stephen Meredith upon Meredith’s retirement.
"Tom Sanderson is a dedicated, hard-working, accomplished, and professional fire official,"
Edwards said in a statement.
"Under Captain Sanderson’s leadership, I expect he will explore ways for the division to operate
efficiently and effectively while maintaining the high quality service and quick response that our
citizens expect and appreciate. He is someone who embraces technology and will utilize it to enhance
safety in our city."
Sanderson has worked for the Fire Division since 1991, when he was hired as a firefighter/paramedic. He
was promoted to lieutenant in 1999 and captain in 2007. Prior to his service with the city, he worked
for the Perrysburg Fire Division.
Sanderson holds a bachelor of science degree in Allied Professions from Ohio State University, and earned
his paramedic certificate from the University of Toledo. He is a National Registry paramedic and has
served as the fire division’s EMS manager.
He has additionally coached youth soccer for 11 years, served on the advisory board for the American Red
Cross of Wood County, and is a Leadership BG graduate. Sanderson and his wife of 26 years, Christine,
have one daughter, Corie.
