Author Joshua Haugh will speak about the 21st OVI and the regiment's history in the Civil War on Saturday at 7 p.m., at the Wood County Historical Museum. The public is invited to attend to learn about some of the famous men from the Infantry such as Tom Custer (brother of George Custer) and the men from Andrew's Raid, who were the first Medal of Honor recipients. Haugh, along with Bradley Quinlin, are the co-authors of "Duty Well Performed: The Twenty-first Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War." The 21st Ohio fought in some of the Civil War's bloodiest battles and was the first Union regiment to enter Savannah on Christmas Day 1864. Before heading back home to small towns in Northwest Ohio, members of the 21st completed their military commitment in Washington as part of the Grand Review. "Duty Well Performed" will be on sale after the lecture for $29.95. More event information can be found at www.woodcountyhistory.org or by calling the Wood County Historical Center at (419) 352-0967.
