INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — GE Aviation plans to invest $92 million
and create 200 jobs at a jet engine manufacturing plant in Lafayette, a
report Tuesday said.
The plant, the company’s first in Indiana,
will build the next-generation LEAP engine, which GE Aviation already
has 6,000 orders for, the Indianapolis Business Journal reported (http://bit.ly/NPJcJL ).
The
jobs will pay an average of $36 per hour, or about $75,000 per year.
The state is providing $3.3 million in tax credits, an industrial
development grant of up to $1.35 million and $332,000 in training
grants, the report said.
The board of the Indiana Economic
Development Corp. discussed the company’s plans during a meeting
Tuesday. Board member Robert Taylor told the newspaper the investment
was an "early phase of what could be more to come."
Gov. Mike
Pence’s office announced separately that he would
join GE Aviation
president and CEO David Joyce at the Purdue University Airport in West
Lafayette on Wednesday for an announcement on the company’s "first-ever
aviation production facility in Indiana."
GE Aviation, based
outside Cincinnati, is a unit of Connecticut-based General Electric Co.
GE Aviation employs more than 40,000 people and recorded 2013 revenue of
$21.9 billion. It operates a components repair facility in Terre Haute.
