BEIJING (AP) — China's auto sales growth held steady in June despite a credit crunch and slowing economic growth.

An industry group said Wednesday auto sales rose 9.3 percent over a year earlier to 1.4 million vehicles, in line with May's 9 percent growth.

That was despite a shortage of credit in financial markets and other indicators showing China's economic growth weakened in May.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said total sales, which includes heavier vehicles such as buses and trucks, also were strong, rising 11.2 percent to 1.7 million vehicles.
