DETROIT (AP) — The owners of the Ambassador Bridge are using a number of government officials as part of an effort to block a planned Canadian-financed bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor, Ontario.

The Detroit Free Press reports (http://on.freep.com/ZeCjRK ) Tuesday that the complaint filed in February is making its way through federal court in Washington, D.C.

The complaint is dated Nov. 9, three days after Michigan voters rejected a ballot measure seeking to require voters to approve building any new border crossing to Canada.

Detroit International Bridge Co. is controlled by Manuel (Matty) Moroun. The company claims a "perpetual and exclusive franchise right" to operate the Ambassador Bridge free of competition from another span.

The new bridge is backed by Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder. His office says the complaint is a delay tactic.
