Otsego FFA stays busy in numerous competitions

The 101 members of the Otsego FFA Chapter have had busy fall in competing in both county and
district career development events (CDE).Chapter members worked in preparing for seven different CDE or FFA
contests.The first contest held was rural soil judging where members evaluate soils for rural use such as
farming and wildlife habitat. The team competed in both the county and district contests. At district the
team placed 10th. Team members were Mackenzie Wenig, Marissa Garrett, Allison McVeigh, Alex Wenig, Zach
Downs, Caleb Baus, and Jonathan Weihl.The urban soils team evaluated soils for uses in lawns, gardens,
septic systems, and roads. The team competed in both the county and district level. In the county the team
placed second and at district the team placed eighth.Members of the district soils team were Savannah
Schwind, Austin Varela, Ricky Peterson, Austin Thomas, Erikka West, John Thomas, Emily McVeigh, and Trevor
Buehrer.Five members competed in the district agronomy contest where they, identify weeds, seeds, and
insects as well as working together in a team event. The team placed third overall. Team members were Alex
Vollmar, Jon Urmetz, Ben Thomas, Sam Perry, and Andrew Wolfram.The diary foods team competed in the district
contest and earned sixth place. The team had to identify off flavors of milk, cheeses, test, and a team
activity.The team members were Brandon Bailey, Marissa Garrett, Alyson Rausch, Alex Vollmar, Dallas Wheeler,
Tyler Dawson, Lindsay Vollmar, and Cameryn Drain.The dairy cattle judging team competed in the district
contest and placed 11th. The team had to place dairy cattle, take a test, and rank pedigrees. Team members
were: Lauren Wynn, Dalton Walls, Aubrey Mazey, Ben Thomas, Morgan Mazey, and Caleb Baus.Eight members
comprised the chapter’s county parliamentary procedure team that competed on Nov. 13 at Otsego High School.
The team had to conduct a 15-minute meeting where they had to demonstrate six different parliamentary
abilities as well as take a test on their knowledge. The team placed second overall in the county.Team
members were Sara Caris, Alex Vollmar, Erin Swanson, Trevor Buehrer, Savannah Schwind, Emily McVeigh,
Caroline Battin, and Brandon Bailey. The two chairman for the team were Caris and Vollmar.For the first
time, the chapter had a novice parliamentary procedure team.The novice team had to be comprised of all
ninth-grade FFA members. They had to give a 15-minute demonstration on parliamentary procedure as well as
take a test on their parliamentary procedure knowledge. The team earned second in the county.Team members
were Shannon Weihl, Lauren Gray, Morgan Mazey, Aubrey Mazey, Colton Battin, Matt Hannewald, Hannah Fonseca,
and Madi Kregel. The two chairman for the team were Weihl and Morgan Mazey.
