REYNOLDSBURG - Ohio Department of Agriculture Director David T. Daniels on Monday kicked off Ohio Agriculture Week in Ashville by inducting the Der Decker Baurenhoff Farm into the Ohio Bicentennial Farm program. This farm is the first to be inducted into the program, which was launched earlier this year.
"Ohio's farmers and businesses depend on each other, and together they are strong. Farms provide the raw inputs to the businesses, which provide jobs and income, and money from these transactions filters through the community," said Daniels. "This relationship has been driving our economy since farms first graced our land more than 200 years ago, it has carried us through to modern times, and will lead us into the future of agricultural progress."
Ohio's Bicentennial Farm program honors families who have maintained the same farm for at least 200 years.
It is an extension of the department's Century Farm program, which has been in existence since 1993. The latter program similarly honors farms which have been in the same family for a minimum of 100 years or more.
The Der Decker Baurenhoff Farm, owned by Bob Fagan, is one of 16 stops Daniels will make during Ohio Agriculture Week, which runs through Friday, to honor local farmers, small businesses and the tremendous economic impact they have on the state.
Ohio Agriculture Week is celebrated each March to help educate Ohioans about the importance of the state's $105 billion food and agriculture industry, on our dinner plates and beyond.
