Organizers of the local gleaning effort are already making plans to organize volunteers and programs for the upcoming "Season of Gleaning."
The organization is looking for field coordinators who serve under the gleaning project manager. The position is volunteer.
Duties for the field reps would be varied, including meeting farmers, getting details and organizing the preparation of the various efforts.
The field supervisors will be able to be there for the duration of the gleaning and make sure the produce gets picked up, or has made other arrangements with the farmer. A good number of trained field supervisors will mean that they will not have to work every weekend, and may be able to work weekdays
The goal this year is one million pounds of food gleaned.
For those not familiar, gleaning involves going into a farm field after its harvest to salvage usable produce which is often donated to area soup kitchens and shelters.
