On Wednesday, the Wood County Junior Fair Board started off the first meeting of the new year by reviewing business from the November meeting, then discussing new business.
The first major item was approving the purchase of a CLAP raffle ticket for the upcoming drawing on March 8.
The board also discussed the investment for a mural for the fair. This mural would be made of canvas and would be hung at future fairs for children of all ages to color while enjoying time at the fair. A committee was formed for further discussion and research.
The Junior Fair Board also focused on fundraising for the improvement of the fairgrounds.
Board members will once again collect company sponsorships through the purchase of bricks for the grounds, show arena signs and Junior Fair T-shirt advertisement.
A newly introduced fundraising idea was to have a movie night in the warmer months at the fairgrounds.
The money would be put toward the Junior Fair Board's "New Barn Fund," which the board is working to improve.
The main focus of the project will be for the eventual purchase of a new barn. The barn would replace the aging beef and swine barns along with the current beef show arena.
The board's goal is to get the children and community involved to improve the county fair overall.
The next meeting will take place Feb. 19.
