The Center for Innovative Food Technology sponsored the third annual Food Product Development Contest which showcases many new local products ready to begin actual product development.
There were three winners recently announced including summations of judging remarks:
¥ Oh My Ganache - A chocolate ganache that adds a touch of luxury to an ordinary dessert. It is especially delicious when warmed as a topping, rolled into truffles
when chilled, served as a spoon candy, or even added to Mexican chili.
¥ Papa Ed's Pepper Butter - A tasty condiment made from a proprietary blend of bell peppers, jalapeños, vinegar, mustard, brown sugar, and a little cornstarch that can be used as a dip, marinade, glaze or spread. The owners have lofty ambitions to perhaps make their product as universal as ketchup and mustard.
¥ Turtle Cookie from Not Just Cookies - A homemade, rich, chocolate cookie with caramel, pecans, and chocolate chips - using natural ingredients such as pure vanilla extract and real butter - which are made on baking stones rather than aluminum cookie sheets. The creator is a student at Central Catholic High School in Toledo.
