Members of the Elmwood FFA chapter recently won the Eastern Regional Farm Business Management team contest held in Springfield, Mass.
Members of the team included Robbie Sigler, Tyler Morlock, and Garrett Benschoter. The Sept. 14 competition sported some of the top teams from 13 states in the Eastern United States.
During the competition, contestants were confronted with problems concerning economics and financial management situations. The Elmwood team competed as the representatives from Ohio. Not only did the team do well, individually, Sigler ranked second, Morlock was third, and Benschoter ranked fifth. An excellent showing by the trio.
The chapter has also kept very busy with numerous other activities during the month of September.
Every year the Elmwood FFA participates in the Wood County Soils contest. This year Bowling Green was the host for this particular event. Elmwood ended up placing first in both urban soil judging and rural soil judging. Garrett Benschoter was the highest individual in the urban soils event with a score of 613 and the team score was 1,679. In fact, the team swept the top seven positions. Benschoter was followed, in order, by Amanda Jones, Jack Hagemeyer, Tiffany Gonyer, Chelsie Schmitz, Dylan Benschoter, and Samantha Laborie.
Branden Mercer placed first in the rural soil judging with a score of 366 and the team's score was 1,006. Joining Mercer in the top five were Kevin Avery, fourth) and Tyler Stone, fifth. The chapter will soon participate in the district soils contest, to be held in Wood County.
Some members also attended was the Farm Science Review. On Sept. 17 the chapter ventured down to London, and observed as much as they could for a day at the annual review.
This event let members check out new farm equipment and new technologies available in agriculture. There were a total of 26 Elmwood FFA members that attended this event.
