Elmwood FFA members recognized

Among the awards presented Saturday night at the Elmwood FFA banquet were:

Proficiency awards are given for excellence in the various areas of student projects.
Cassie Shaffer was a triple winner taking top honors for her dairy beef feeders, forage crop production and shared with her sister in specialty crop production with her sister, Emilia Shaffer for their popcorn project. Katie Peters was a double winner, taking top honors in both beef market steers and goat production.

Equine production - Kylee Smith
Grain production - Lorne Strausbaugh
Oil crop production - Mitch Beaverson
Vegetable production - Trisha Cassidy
Community development - Tyler Morlock
The top five sellers for the annual citrus fruit and nut sale were recognized. The chapter sold in excess of $40,000 worth of fruit, nuts and beef jerky. The top seller who received both a T-shirt and a trophy was Brittany George with sales of $2,650. The remainder of the top five, who each received a T-shirt in order, were: Tyler Morlock, $1,809; Taylor Barndt, $1,562; Garrett Benschoter $1,420; and Courtney Thomson, $1,351. All members who sold more than $500 in fruit was awarded a free meal, with all who sold receiving a commission.
Three special scholarships were awarded during the banquet. The Amber Reynolds Memorial scholarship of $500 was presented to Taylor Murphy. The $500 scholarship sponsored by Mike and Nancy Keys was presented to Lorne Strausbaugh; and the Mark Foster Memorial scholarship of $1,000 was presented to Tori Hillard.
The FFA Alumni presented five scholarships for FFA Camp to Meagan Wise, Megan Hathaway, Ashley Veryser, Angelique Franks and Richard McBrien. The seven members who will receive a scholarship to the Washington Leadership Conference are Wise, Hathaway and Veryser, along with Garrett Benschoter, Emily Schmitz, Nick Stearns and Taylor Barndt.
Three members were awarded $500 academic scholarships. They were Cassandra Shaffer, Lorne Strausbaugh and Courtney Thomson; The two $350 scholarships were awardeded to Jon Shinew and Dimitri Davidson. In addition $200 academic scholarships were awarded to Casey Heller and Taylor Murphy.
Ag Credit 110 Percent Award was presented to Garrett Benschoter. His introduction said, "He truly defines the meaning of giving 110 percent. by the devoted time he has invested into the FFA.
The Dekalb Award was presented to. Cassie Shaffer. This award, presented to a senior with emphasis on leadership, scholarship and supervised agricultural experience.
Chelsie Schmitz was crowned the chapter's queen for this year and will compete in the Wood County Queen contest this summer.
The Wood County Soil & Water Conservation District Award was presented to Amanda Jones.
Jimmy Haws Memorial Award to recognize a member with strong participation went to Robbie Sigler.
Scot Crawford Memorial Award which emphasizes enthusiasm was presented to Chelsie Schmitz.
Ray Wagner Memorial Award which awards $50 and a trophy was presented to Courtney Thomson for her strong activity and leadership.
Delbert Wise Memorial Award awarded for a member who has heavy involvement in local activities and is critical to behind the scenes success, was awarded to Lorne Strausbaugh. He received $100 and a trophy.
The Miss/Mister Volunteer of the Year awards were presented to: Chelsi Schmitz, Crystal Berta, Taylor Barndt, Courtney Thomson, Lorne Strausbaugh, Cassandra Shaffer, Jack Hagemeyer, Marisa Ayala, Smantha Laborie, Morgan Huff, Amanda Jones, Madison Reinhard, Nick Stearns, Robbie Sigler, Meagan Wise, Makayla Mohre, Brett Jones. E,e;oa Sjaffer. Garrett Benschoter, Emily Schmitz and Alexis Miller.
