Beef industry enthusiasts gathered in Columbus earlier this month for the 2013 Ohio Beef Expo.
The Ohio Cattlemen's Association hosted more than 30,000 participants and attendees at the Ohio Expo Center.
Some of the Wood County youth excelled in events during the expo, including Morgan Mazey who took first place in the Junior Showmanship, and the Wood County I judging team was first in the junior division.
Mazey was the winner for her age division, the middle division of five.
The judging contest held the same day also featured 290 youth who evaluated live cattle classes and were required to answer questions regarding the livestock. Participants were divided into junior and senior divisions. The junior division championship Wood County 1 team included Hayden Belleville, Sydney Mazey, Morgan Mazey and Kylie O'Brien.
High individual participants from the county included Owen Brinker of Wood County Junior 3 team in seventh place individually and O'Brien in eighth place.
Two county participants finished in the top 10 individually in the senior division, Logan Browne, Wood County A was fourth; while Justin Nofziger of Wood County 1 was seventh.
Their events were part of the March 16 activities which included Beef Quality Assurance training, to go along with the showmanship contest, and judging contest that included 290 participants.
Three recipients were honored with the Friend of the Expo Award for their loyal support of the Expo, including the Wood County Beef Producers as long-time supporters of the youth judging contest.
