On Oct. 24, 18 members of the Bowling Green FFA Chapter began their adventure to Indianapolis for the 2012 National FFA Convention, where the chapter was named one of the elite in the nation.
Their bus departed at 7 a.m. towards Miller's Poultry processing plant, where they arrived mid-morning and toured the facility. The operation processes 35,000 chickens each day. The BG FFA learned the whole process from when the chickens arrived in crates to when the processed products were being loaded onto trucks.
From there the chapter members traveled to Trading Place Shipshewana Auction and Flea Market for lunch and to tour the livestock auction, where farmers from a tri-state area bring a variety of species to be bought and traded. After checking into the hotel and dinner, the members enjoyed the Brantley Gilbert and Band Perry concert.
The next day they attended the first session of the day where members heard remarks from U.S. Olympic figure skater and Bowling Green native Scott Hamilton. Once the session concluded, members enjoyed the more than 2,400 booths at the career show in the convention center. After grabbing a bite to eat all of the FFA members went to the afternoon session where the Bowling Green FFA Chapter was recognized as one the elite chapters in the nation out of 7,400 chapters at the 85th National FFA Convention. The chapter received the 2-Star National Chapter Award.
The award is based on the activities the chapter does throughout the year in the areas of community, chapter, and student development.  Friday included a tour of the Chip Ganassi Indy Car Race Team Garage, where the members were treated to a "back stage" tour of all the components of the Indy cars. Following the tour the FFA members enjoyed an evening of go-carting and the World's Toughest Rodeo at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
The trip ended Oct. 27.  The Bowling Green FFA Chapter attended the last session and watched four of its members receive the American FFA Degree. These members included Hailey McCarron, Kelby Kale, Aaron Cramer, and Samantha King.
