Maddie Recker, a member of the Blue Ribbon Rangers 4-H Club, is organizing a fundraising effort to benefit the Appelhans family, who are friends with her family.
The mother, Trish Appelhans died June 22 just three weeks after being informed of having 18-months remaining in her battle with a rare cancer.
The 12-year-old is collecting money to be used toward the purchase of her dairy beef feeder at the Wood County Fair. She hopes to raise $6,000 which will be used for Matt Appelhans to take the couple's daughters on a previously planned trip to Disney World.
A full story including her final total will be published next week.
Anyone wishing to assist the 4-H member with the effort can seek her out in the Junior Beef barn or call (419) 309-0342 prior to Monday morning to contribute to her effort.
