The election of the governing board for the Wood County Agricultural Society will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday in the Junior Fair Building.
There are 17 people vying for the 11 open seats on what is more commonly called the Senior Fair Board.
Seven current board members are running unopposed for the Township seats. There are also four people running to fill two three-year at-large terms and four more running for one two-year term vacancy.
There are also two candidates who have filed to fill the vacant seat representing the City of Bowling Green.
Current board members Collette Dickey, Bowling Green, and president Bill Kale, Portage, are running for re-election for the at-large seats. Cindi Knell of Bowling Green, and Jennifer Bankey, Custar, are challenging the incumbents for the two three-year terms.
Last year an at-large seat was left vacant due to nobody running. Allen was appointed to fill the seat for one year. Rather than run for that seat, Allen chose to try for the Bowling Green seat which was left vacant due to the retirement of Jo Sipes. Holliday (Converse) Thomas, is also running for election from Bowling Green.
The four candidates vying for the remaining two years on Allen's former at-large seat are Cody Bame, Portage; Jeff Hahn, Perrysburg; Sheila Patton, Dunbridge; and Jeff Schulte, Walbridge.
The seven current board members running unopposed to represent their townships on the board are Nancy Aurand, Portage; Doug Michaelis, Washington; Deanne Corken, Webster; Steve Speck, Middleton; Steve Thomson, Perry; Dennis Zernhel, Jackson; and Dick King, Montgomery.
Corken was appointed to fill the term of her late father, Darrell Hentges. There is still one year remaining in that term, and she will now fill the Webster seat through next year's fair.
Only those with voting memberships may vote in the election.
