Otsego High School
TONTOGANY - Samantha Criner was named the Student of the Month for May at Otsego High School.
The daughter of Robert and Shelly Criner, Grand Rapids, the senior ranked first in her class with a 4.01 grade point average.
Criner was a volleyball statistician and member of National Honor Society for two years. She earned numerous Otsego excellence awards for all A's, and was one of the valedictorians of her class.
Criner works part-time at the Clothes Mentor in Perrysburg. She plans to attend the University of Findlay to major in physical therapy.
Also honored in May were junior Emily Limes, sophomore Krista Frost, and freshman Nathan Downs.
Limes is a member of National Honor Society, chorale, and FFA where she is president-elect for 2009-10. She also plays softball and basketball for the Knights, and is in a summer softball league. She has earned academic excellence awards as well as academic varsity letters.
Limes is a member of Simply Stock 4-H club, the Wood County Livestock Judging Team, Ohio Junior Angus Association and National Junior Angus Association.
The daughter of Rod and Laurie Limes, of rural Bowling Green, the junior plans to attend college for a major in an agricultural field.
Frost is the daughter of Deb Frost, Weston, and Jeff Frost, Grand Rapids. She participates in pep, jazz, marching and concert bands; and chorale. She's had perfect attendance the past two years, and has earned an Otsego academic certificate and varsity letter.
Downs is the son of Rick and Heidi Downs, rural Bowling Green. He's appeared in the school musicals, and participates in varsity football and basketball, junior varsity baseball, chorale and swing choir. He's also active in 4-H and Young Life.
Eastwood High School/Penta
PEMBERVILLE - Zachary Bailey was named the Eastwood High School/Penta Career Center Student of the Month for April. The award is sponsored by Luckey Kiwanis Club.
Bailey is a junior in the construction carpentry program at Penta, and he has a 3.2 grade point average. He's an honor roll student and past member of FFA.
The junior also is a four-year member of Blue Ribbon Rangers 4-H club, and is an Ohio State Fair participant. Currently he is involved in horse management.
A member of First Baptist Church in Perrysburg, he plans to attend college to obtain his construction management degree and become involved in commercial carpentry.
His parents are Ernie and Cindy Bailey, Pemberville.
