Students celebrate drug-free lifestyles

On Friday, the Wood County Red Ribbon Kickoff was held in the atrium of the Wood County Courthouse.
Spirit of Prevention Awards were presented to local law enforcement officers for their continuous work in
reducing alcohol, tobacco and other drug use in Wood County and building developmental assets in Wood
County youth. Recipients included:
• Officer Robin Short, Bowling Police Division
• Officer Fredrick Genzman, Northwood Police Department
• Officer Rachel Bernhard, Perrysburg Township Police Department
• Sgt. Mark Marek, Rossford Police Depart-ment
• Deputy Rod Smith and Andrew Webb both with the Wood County Sheriff’s Office
Students from the Elmwood Elementary Student Council read a Red Ribbon Week pledge that Elmwood students
signed.
Schools throughout Wood County continue to celebrate Red Ribbon Week this week.
Also at the event, Wood County Commissioner Jim Carter presented a declaration for a drug free Wood
County to Lorrie Lewandowski, ATOD School and Community Based Prevention Program Coordinator, and Kyle
Kanuckel, superintendent of the Wood County Educational Service Center.
The Wood County SHAPES (Shaping Healthy Atmospheres that Promote Education and Safety) survey data report
covering topics such as school climate, relationship violence and ATOD use was presented by Dr. Stacey
Rychener.
