Otsego High SchoolTONTOGANY – Otsego High School named Kristen Fowler as its September Student of
the Month.Fowler is the daughter of Thomas and Beth Fowler, of Bowling Green.She ranks fifth in her class
with a 4.123 grade point average.She is a four-year member of the marching, jazz, pep and concert bands, and
is serving her second year as drum major. She’s also been a four-year member of the book and media club.She
is PR officer for the drama club and has spent two years in National Honor Society.She’s a long-time member
of 4-Leaf Clovers 4-H club, and has served as president of the county Topshots. She is also on the Wood
County Leadership Board and has served as a 4-H camp counselor.She has been a 4-H delegate to the state fair
for five years.Fowler is a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church youth group and choir and is a vacation
Bible school leader. She also spent three years with Girl Scout Troop 11162.She plans to study biology or
engineering at an undecided college.Other honorees for the month included junior Fred Balmoria, sophomore
Tyler Harroun and freshman Kayla Wietrzykowski.Balmoria is the son of Michael and Polly Balmoria, of
Weston.He participates in cross country and track and has played town baseball for two years.Harroun is the
son of Parker and Kelly Harroun, Tontogany.He’s participated in cross country and track as well as
band.Wietrzykowski is the daughter of and Jamie and Kerry Wietrzykowski, Perrysburg.She participates in
golf, book and media club and National Junior Honor Society, and is the freshman class vice president of
student council.Elmwood High SchoolJERRY CITY – Tyler Smith was honored as the October Student of the Month
at Elmwood High School.Smith, of Bloomdale, is the son of Jason and Dawn Smith.He has served as class
president for all four years of high school, and is president of student council as well as a member of
National Honor Society.He played golf for two years and videotapes the basketball and football games. He’s
also a member of the engineering club.In his four years at Elmwood, he has earned top student awards in
chemistry, American history, computer literacy and applications, principals of engineering, world history,
health and wellness, physical science, geometry, biology, English 9 and introduction to engineering
design.He has earned VIP awards in both spring and fall in 2011, 2012 and 2013.Smith is a member of St.
Aloysius Church in Bowling Green, and has logged more than 2,000 honors in community service the last six
years.He plans to attend Ohio State University or the University of Notre Dame to study biology, then attend
either a veterinary school or medical school to become a vet or a doctor.
