Semko, Krouse crowned at Elmwood’s winter homecoming

JERRY CITY – "One Stellar Night" was the theme for this year’s winter homecoming at Elmwood
High School.
The court were honored in a pregame ceremony Friday evening.
This year’s homecoming queen is Sierra Semko, daughter of Dave Semko of Bowling Green and Tiffiney
(Meeker, 1981) Semko of Wayne.
At school Semko is a four-year member of the golf team, a member of National Honor Society, and senior
class secretary. Outside of school she has the honor of being the Fire Queen for the Wayne Volunteer
Fire Department.
She is employed at the Country Farmhouse in Wayne and is a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in
Bowling Green.
Upon graduation she plans to attend Miami University and major in psychology.
The homecoming king is Justin Krouse, son of Lance and Nancy (Treier, 1981) Krouse of Bloomdale.
Krouse is a member of National Honor Society, student council, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as
well as the football and track teams. Outside of school he participates in the Salem Cass United
Methodist Church Youth Group, and is a member of the Pastor/Parish Committee. He is employed at
Tents-N-Stuff in Van Buren.
Following high school, Krouse will major in mechanical engineering and play football at Rose-Hulman
Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, IN.
The senior attendant is Katie Morrison. She is the daughter of Thomas Morrison Jr. and Debra Morrison of
Wayne.
Morrison is a member of the art club.
She would like to take a year off after school to travel, but then attend BGSU in pre-mortuary science,
followed by the completion of her degree at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.
The senior escort is Treg Snowden, son of Trent (1980) and Kim Snowden of rural Wayne.
He is involved in FFA, band, and is a member of the track team. He attends the Wayne United Methodist
Church.
After high school, Snowden plans to attend ATI and then transfer to Ohio State, but is undecided on his
major.
Each year the students at Penta Career Center elect an attendant and escort to represent them at the
winter homecoming. This year’s Penta attendant is Autumn Nagy, the daughter of Herb (1985) and Betsy
(Shumway, 1982) Nagy of Wayne. She is a senior in the culinary arts program and works in the Penta
restaurant.
After high school, Nagy plans on attending Owens Community College for culinary arts to become a food
stylist.
The Penta escort is Donnie Hoffman, the son of Don and Diana Hoffman of Bloomdale. He is a senior in the
advanced manufacturing program. At school, Hoffman is a Penta ambassador and tour guide. He is employed
at Mareches’ Custom Services in Bloomdale. After graduation, he hopes to become a machinist.
The junior attendant is Heather Ickes of Wayne. She is the daughter of Christina Valencia and Tracy
Ickes.
She is a member of National Honor Society, student council, prom committee and band and is a member of
the golf team.
Her post-graduation plans involve attending college, possibly in psychology.
The junior escort is Tristen Ritchey, son of Keith and Melanie Ritchey of Wayne.
He plans to attend college for engineering design.
The sophomore attendant is Emily Schmitz, daughter of Dennie and Michele Schmitz of Wayne.
She is involved with Spanish club, art club, and FFA, and is also a member of the volleyball and track
teams. Outside of school, Schmitz participates in 4-H Car teens, Country Paws 4-H club, and 4-H
leadership board. She attends St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria.
After graduation, she plans to attend BGSU and major in criminal justice and minor in business. The
sophomore escort is Robert Bentley, son of Thomas (1981) and JoAnna (Tahy, 1983) Bentley of Wayne. At
school he is a member of the football and track teams, as well as robotics club, FFA, Fellowship of
Christian Athletes, and all of the bands. Outside of school, he is a member of the Wayne Fire Department
Cadets and Wayne United Methodist Church.
His future plans include attending college to become a physician’s assistant and later attend medical
school to become an orthopedic surgeon.
The freshman attendant is Nicole Abke. She is the daughter of Gregg (1990) and Renee (Getter, 1992) Abke
of Portage.
At school, Abke is involved in choir, band and Spanish club. Outside of school she is involved with her
4-H club and is a member of the Village View Church of Christ in Bowling Green.
The freshman escort is Jacob Kern. He is the son of Greg (1981) and Becky Kern of Cygnet.
Kern participates in band and is a member of the Spanish club. Outside of school, he is involved in Boy
Scouts and attends the Basic Truth Church in Cygnet
Helping with the ceremony will be four first-graders. Each child has at least one parent who graduated
from Elmwood. The first student is Olivia Stone, daughter of Matt (1992) and Courtney (Holland, 1992)
Stone of Portage. The next student is Brady Mareches, son of Dawn (1994) Mareches of rural Bloomdale.
Also included in Kayden King, daughter of Kevin (2004) King of Bloomdale and Shawntay King of Bradner.
The final student is Landon Snow, son of Phillip (1995) and Dawn (Summersett, 1998) Snow of Cygnet.
