Perrysburg’s Colburn earns Master Teacher distinction

PERRYSBURG – Melissa Colburn, who teaches language arts at Perrysburg Junior High, has achieved the
Master Teacher distinction from the Ohio Department of Education.
Master teacher is a designation which directed the Educator Standard Boards to define what a master
teacher is so that all Ohio school districts could adopt a uniform criteria.
According to the Ohio Educator Standards Board, a master teacher demonstrates excellence inside and
outside the classroom through consistent leadership and focused collaboration to maximize student
learning. A master teacher must also strive for distinguished teaching and continued professional
growth.
Colburn is the fifth Perrysburg teacher to gain the classification of Master Teacher. She submitted a
comprehensive portfolio that included evidence of her teaching abilities that was independently
evaluated using a thorough and unbiased process.
