During this school year, students at Penta Career Center have been constructing a 2,200 square foot house
as part of their career training. The house is for the Britten family and is located at 10700 Roachton
Road in Perrys-burg Township. The house will be open to the public on Sunday, 1 to 3 p.m.
"Each year, our students construct a house as part of their senior class project," says Kevin
McCann, supervisor of the construction trades programs at Penta Career Center. "Students in our
construction trades programs build houses to gain valuable hands-on experience in residential home
construction."
The house is a ranch style and has two bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms and a half basement. Special features
include a vaulted ceiling in the great room; a covered back porch; French doors to the back porch;
fireplace in great room; a large kitchen; stamped concrete porches; and spray foam insulation for energy
efficiency.
Students in Penta’s Construction Carpentry, Masonry, Electricity, Construction Trades and HVACR/Piping
Systems Technology programs worked on some aspect of the home. The home building project is part of the
high school curriculum in the Construction Trades programs.
