Parents can learn about guiding teens to good choices during series in Eastwood

PEMBERVILLE – Another Guiding Good Choices series will begin Monday at 6:30 p.m. at
Eastwood High School. The free five-part series is designed to help parents
prepare their children for new decisions facing them in middle and high school.

Pre-registration for the course is not necessary, and participants may attend any or
all of the five sessions.
Childcare and a light dinner are provided. Presented by the Wood County Educational
Service Center, the free series has been shown to reduce teens’ alcohol use by
40 percent, reduce the rate of adolescent problem behaviors, and improve family
communication.
As a child enters middle or high school, he or she will confront many new
experiences. Peer pressure and exposure to alcohol and drugs are only two of
these challenges. Guiding Good Choices can equip parents to help the child
manage these situations. The course suggests ways parent can set clear
guidelines and establish healthy standards. Parents learn how to help their
teens say "no" to risky behaviors. And families can discover ways to
manage conflict and express anger constructively, thereby strengthening family
bonds.
Participants receive summaries of in-depth information and a family resource guide.

The Guiding Good Choices series will be offered throughout the year in various
locations all over Wood County. Contact the Wood County Educational Service
Center (419) 354-9010 for more information. Guiding Good Choices is funded in
part by the federal Safe Schools, Healthy Students Grant.
