NORTH BALTIMORE - The North Baltimore American Legion Post 539 will be awarding three $1,000 scholarships in November.
Men and women who apply for these scholarships must meet the following eligibility qualifications:
•    Is a graduating high school senior or is now or will be attending a college or university
•    Is a current paid up member of American Legion Post 539; is a direct descendant (son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, etc.) of a current paid up Post 539 member in good standing; is a direct descendant of a deceased Post 539; member, or is a surviving spouse or child of a deceased U. S. military member who died while on active duty or died of injuries received while on active duty.
The scholarships will be awarded based on a combination of academic achievements, extracurricular activities, a short essay, and may include an interview of the finalists. The scholarships will be made payable to the college or university the student is or will be attending.
Scholarship application forms may be obtained from the North Baltimore High School guidance counselor, or by calling American Legion Post 539 at 419-257-2158, or from John A. Cheney, scholarship chairman at 419-257-2388.
The completed application forms and essay must be received by the American Legion before 5 p.m. Oct. 31.
The scholarships will be awarded to the three winners at the annual American Legion Veterans Day Dinner to be held on Nov. 9 at the American Legion Hall in North Baltimore.
