Honoring Positive Start students (04-03-14)

(Editor’s note: This is the first of a four-day listing of Bowling Green middle school students who were
honored.)
The Bowling Green Exchange Club again is recognizing area youth for the good things they’ve accomplished
this past year, in and out of the classroom.
The Exchange Club’s Positive Start program asks teachers to honor students who have done something
positive. Students must live in the Bowling Green School District and be in grades 7 or 8. The purpose
is to honor students who have achieved "to the best of their abilities" to improve the school
and community settings.
A luncheon will be held Tuesday at Stone Ridge Golf Club to honor all 58 students who represent Bowling
Green Middle School, St. Aloysius Catholic School and Bowling Green Christian Academy.
The following students are among those being honored:
Bandar Alshuraym, a seventh-grader at BGMS, is a positive hard worker who is active in football,
basketball, travel soccer, and quiz bowl. He is also active in his mosque and is always willing to help
others.
Kloe Atwood, a seventh-grader at BGMS, is active in sports, participating on the basketball, volleyball
and track teams. She is a member of the choir. Her teachers appreciate her hard work and dedication to
her school work as well as the kindness she shows towards her peers. She earns straight A’s, has been
the student of the month and achieved the Healthy Character Award. Kloe participates in her church youth
group and volunteers at the Wood County District Library.
Chloe Beeker, an eighth-grader at BGMS, has been a very valuable member of Team Endeavor. Her work ethic
and willingness to learn are greatly appreciated by her teachers. She is quite a leader and a great
example for her peers.
Ian Brackenbury, also in eighth grade at BGMS, is a strong member of Team Phoenix. He maintains strong
grades and participates in class often. He enjoys soccer, swimming and martial arts and also takes an
interest in art. He is polite, kind and caring to his classmates and teachers.
Nick Breen, an eighth-grader at BGMS, is a stellar student and has been a volunteer at Wintergarden
Nature Park for the past 3 ¬? years. He pulls A’s at school and pulls invasive species at the park. At
Wintergarden. He has participated in the restoration of the native prairie. In addition, he has
collected seeds from native plants, participated in re-seeding and planting native plants as well as
preparing the site for controlled burning.
Jacob Brockway, an eighth-grader at BGMS, is a strong member of Team Phoenix. He participates in football
and wrestling, earning many honors. He is also a member of the 8th Grade Honors Band.
Kerica Bucks, in the seventh grade at BGMS, is a creative thinker who always does her best and maintains
a 4.0 gpa. She is on the quiz bowl team, is first chair for trombone and is in the OMEA District One
Honors Band. Also, she is a member of the Bowling Green Soccer Club, volunteers at the library and in
the children’s art area at the Black Swamp Art’s Festival. She has been student of the month and was
nominated for the People to People Leadership conference.
Dream Clark-Quaintance, a seventh-grader at BGMS, is kind and pleasant to her peers and participates in
class. She plays baseball and softball and enjoys acting in plays. She volunteers her time by shoveling
driveways and mowing lawns.
Alyssa Clemens, an eighth-grader at St. Aloysius, is an incredibly diligent student who puts a great deal
of effort into her work. As a result she is consistently on the honor roll. Her cooperation and caring
make her a great role model for younger students.
Kevin Cole, also a seventh-grader at BGMS, is an extremely polite and cooperative student who gets along
well with his teachers and his peers. He is an active member of his church. He played seventh-grade
football until he was injured.
Riley Cordes, in the eighth grade at BGMS, is an asset to any classroom. He cares about learning, takes
the initiative to ask questions and participates consistently even if he is unsure of his answers. He is
extremely polite and works easily with his peers. Riley is extremely personable and Team Endeavor feels
very lucky to have him on their team.
Gracen Dixon, in seventh grade at BGMS, is kind and polite, works hard and is an example to others. She
is active in her church, participating in youth group, girls’ ministers and working with the 4-year-old
class. She has earned student of the month awards, piano awards, performing arts awards and creative
writing contests. Gracen also babysits and dog sits.
August "Gus" Eschedor, a seventh-grader at BGMS, is an excellent student who is polite and hard
working. He is on the wrestling team and was a Team Apollo student of the month. He is den chief for his
Boy Scout group and actively raises money and collects food for the needy with his church youth group.
Gus is extremely active in 4-H and is a member of the fundraising committee for 4-H Livestock Unlimited.

Noah Evans, an eighth-grader at BGMS, is a member of Team Phoenix, and is kind and polite to his
classmates and teachers. He enjoys playing soccer and basketball and plans to play soccer in high
school. Noah maintains good grades and participates in his church youth group.
