PERRYSBURG - Perrysburg High School is getting ready to cut loose with its latest musical production, "Footloose."
"Footloose" celebrates importance of listening to young people while guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.
"Even people who are not familiar with the show will love the score," stated co-director Joel Hamilton. "From old favorites to the new additions, the audience will have a hard time not dancing along with the teenagers of Bomont."
On stage Thursday through Sunday, "Footloose" is based on the popular 1980s Kevin Bacon movie. It tells the story of a city teenager, Ren, who moves with his mother to the small town of Bomont where rock music and dancing have been banned. Soon his nonconformist spirit shakes up the town and when the reverend's rebellious daughter, Ariel, sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation. The heartfelt story that emerges is of an overprotective father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.
The cast includes Jake Knight at Ren McCormack, Kyra Marks and Ethel McCormack, Connor Leupp as Rev. Shaw Moore, Morgan Brunsman as Vi Moore, and Abby Newman as Ariel Moore.
"Footloose" boasts a Tony-nominated score with the hit songs from the movie, including "Almost Paradise," "Holding Out For A Hero," "Let's Hear It For The Boy," and the title song.
Evening performances are set Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. A matinee is planned for Sunday at 2 p.m.
All seats are reserved. Tickets are $12 and available through the high school box office, open Monday through Thursday, 7 to 8 p.m.
Co-directors are Rob Gentry and Hamilton. Student directors are Tia Shaha and Zach Ibarra.
