JERRY CITY – At a special Elmwood Schools Board of Education meeting Monday, the board hired a contractor
to build its new band room, and extended elementary Principal Michelle Tuite’s contract through 2016.

Tuite’s contract was up at the end of the 2014-15 school year. She has been principal since 2006.
Gilbane will be design and build contractor for the proposed band room addition.
The room, to the north of the existing band room, will be approximately 60 feet by 70 feet, or 4,200
square feet.
Superintendent Tony Borton said the cost of the project, estimated at a little more than $1 million, will
be finalized once the design is completed.
Gilbane was the contractor for the main building, which was finished 10 years ago.
The board on Monday also hired Jason Barringer as high school science teacher, and Kristen Duncan, as
fourth-grade teacher.
At Elmwood’s regular board of education meeting earlier this month, several retirees were recognized for
their years of service.
Teachers Barb Slagle, Laura King and Pat Dominique; bus drivers Debbie Brooks, Gloria Combs and Bob Lee;
and custodian Jerry Ramsey all turned in retirement requests.
Ramsey pointed out this would be the first time since there has been an Elmwood that a Ramsey hasn’t
worked for the district.
Board President Brian King pointed out "Jerry worked here when Tom (Bentley, high school principal)
and I were students here."
Bentley also received the Northwest Excellence Award for Outstanding Leadership.
The board also established a Margaret E. and Leonard N Davis Scholarship Fund for $30,000 from the Davis
family trust with the interest to be used to fund scholarships in the Davis name.
Caitria Karna was given a one-year contract as a speech/language pathologist, and Abbie Murray was given
a one-year contract as a high school English teacher.
