E-school seminar in Toledo
Representatives from Ohio Connections Academy, a leading e-school serving students in grades K-12 from across Ohio, will host an information session on Tuesday in Toledo to educate prospective parents and students about the virtual public school.
Teachers, administrators and parents of current students will be available to answer questions about how the online school works, the benefits to students, and how to enroll. Enrollment for Ohio Connections Academy for the 2013-14 academic year is currently open.
Ohio Connections Academy delivers a virtual public school education that combines state-certified teachers, a print-rich curriculum, technology tools and community experiences.
The program will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Fairfield Inn and Suites Toledo North, 5685 Benore Road.
BGHS cheerleaders benefit
The Bowling Green High School cheerleaders will hold a benefit night July 10 at the McDonald's on East Wooster Street.
A portion of sales from drive-through and walk-in purchases from 4 to 7 p.m. will go to the cheerlers.
Dayne Martinez, Tontogany, was awarded a $2,000 scholarship for the 2013-14 school year by the American Legion, Department of Ohio. Martinez attended Buckeye Boys State and graduated from Otsego High School, where he was a former student of the month.
Martinez was a four-year marching and concert band member, and library aide. He was president of Book and Media Club, and treasurer and two-year member of National Honor Society. He served as student representative to the board of education.
Other memberships include Tontogany 4-Leaf Clovers 4-H club, Wood County 4-H Leadership Board and the Wood County Top Shots shooting sporting club. He took first place at the Ohio State Fair in 2011 for his use of guns 4-H project.
He plan to major in behavioral neuroscience or psychology in college.
He's the son of Mario and Carol Martinez.
