Owens hosts Transportation Technologies Career Day
Students and members of the community interested in a career in Transportation Technology are invited to
attend the Transportation Technologies Career Day hosted by Owens Community College. Students and
community members will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from the medium and heavy duty
trucking, automotive and construction equipment industries. Local business are also welcome to attend
and meet students from the diesel, automotive, auto body and welding programs, as well as collect
resumes from students looking for potential employment.
The event is Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Transportation Technology Building at Owens.

Panel on Ohio’s high stakes testing policies set for Tuesday
SYLVANIA – A community panel discussion regarding Ohio’s High Stakes Testing Policies and the Impact on
Children, Teachers and Schools will be held Tuesday from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. at Sylvania Branch Library,
6749 Monroe St. The panel will be followed by a question and answer period.
The presentation is the third event sponsored by Northwest Ohio Friends of Public Education, a
citizen-driven, non-partisan movement to inform and engage Northwest Ohioans, at the community level, to
support and strengthen public schools. Last month, this same forum drew over 60 community members to the
Maumee Library.
The presentation will feature a the following panelists: Dr. Ruslan Slutsky, associate professor of Early
Childhood Education, the University of Toledo; Lisa Clair, guidance counselor; Karlyn Swoap, parent;
Jane Barnes, parent; Holly Schmidbauer, principal, Rossford Schools; and Jim Windnagle teacher, Maumee
Schools.
ABLE classes offered
FOSTORIA – Orientation for free Fostoria Adult Basic Literacy Education or ABLE classes for those wanting
2014 GED certification for completion of high school requirements will be held on Monday and Wednesday
at the Fostoria Junior/Senior High School in room 121. The entrance is on the east side of the building.

The times are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. both days. Participants must be there for one entire
two-part session, either a morning session both days or an evening session both days.
Call 419-436-4163 between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday to register for orientation.
The orientation will provide information about Fostoria’s ABLE program content and the new 2014 GED test.
Orientation is a requirement to attend classes that are held on Tuesday and Thursday each week from 8:30
to 11:30 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m.
Those participating in orientation can begin classes as soon as the two-part process is completed.
