Jonathan Digby, of Grand Rapids, received his white coat at the White Coat Ceremony for the Class of 2017 at Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) in Harrogate, Tenn., in September.
Digby is a first-year osteopathic medical student at LMU-DCOM. Prior to enrolling at LMU-DCOM, Digby attended Ohio Northern University and Barry University.
The White Coat Ceremony is a special ceremony designed to mark a student's entrance into medical school.
Ohio Northern University student Anna Sankovich, a junior music performance major from Bowling Green, has been named a 2013 Presser Scholar Award recipient. As a Presser Scholar, Sankovich will receive a $4,400 grant.
The award is given to a student who shows excellence in academics and a passion for music.
Sankovich is a member of the University Singers and acts as the soprano section leader, assistant conductor and choral assistant. She also is a member of Chamber Singers, Opera Workshop and Delta Omicron and is the vice president of the ONU chapter of the American Choral Directors Association.
Outside of the music department, Sankovich is a member of Delta Zeta sorority and serves on the executive board of the ONU Panhellenic Council as vice president of Rho Gammas. She recently won third place at the Buckeye National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) spring auditions and is a member of Mortar Board, Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta.
Madelyn Karnitis, of Perrysburg, entered the College of Medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University. Karnitis is a graduate of Perrysburg High School and Kent State University.
She is a member of the Class of 2017 and was welcomed at the White Coat ceremony in September.
White coats are symbolic of the professionalism that is expected of medicine and pharmacy students during their professional school years and as physicians and pharmacists.
