Thirty-five members of the BGHS Drama Club’s Thespian Troupe 1489 participated in the State Thespian
Conference, sponsored by the Ohio Educational Theatre Association in March.
Students performed in two student-directed one-acts they had featured in the drama club’s Winter One-Acts
Festival in January, discussed methods of devised theatre in relationship to the topic of human
trafficking in workshops led by their advisor, Dr. Jo Beth Gonzalez, and attended workshops on all
aspects of theatre.
Students recognized for outstanding participation include Courtney Brickner who was selected to serve as
assistant stage manager for this year’s All-Ohio production "Good and Plenty."
The Tech Challenge team comprised of Joe Buzzelli, Drake Doren, Mickey Heider, Alex Knoell, Marissa Ramos
and Andrew Weedon earned second place out of 17 competing troupes, and won a Source Four PAR lighting
instrument for the Performing Arts Center.
The Group Musical entry, "Cell Block Tango" from the musical "Chicago," was led by
Sara Drummer and included Grace Easterly, Christina Gavarone, Flannery Murnen, Maddi Pinkleman and
Ariane Zefferey. Their performance received double-superiors and was selected for the I.E. Showcase on
Sunday morning. Their ratings qualify them to compete at the International level this summer.
