|BGHS quiz bowl qualifies for state|

The Bowling Green High School Quiz Bowl Team placed second at the North West Regional this past Saturday in Tiffin.
By placing in the top two of the double elimination 16-team regional event, the Bowling Green team has qualified for the second consecutive year to compete for the State High School Quiz Bowl Championship. This event will be held in Columbus at Columbus State University on May 4.
The sixteen teams that qualified for the regional event had to be league champions (the league had to be comprised of eight or more schools) or a major tournament champion. Bowling Green won the Great Lakes League this year as well as the WBGU TV Tournament.
Bowling Green went 5-1 in the tournament. The team defeated Tiffin Columbian, Warren G. Harding, Norwalk High School, Mt. Vernon and Findlay. The double loss was to eventual regional champion, Dublin Scioto High School. The top two teams from six individual regionals around the state will advance to Columbus.
Bowling Green's overall record this year was 46-6.
Individual team members are: Duncan Richardson, Amy Fan, Joey Young, Shawn Layden, Andrew Codding, Chris Brickner, Hailey Clifford and Skylar Hayes.
The team is coached by high school social studies teacher Tom Smathers, who is retiring after this season.
Next year's coach will be Nathan Whitman, also social studies teacher
