Nothing says America, and stirs those leftover Fourth of July feelings, like a hearty slice of apple pie.
But who wants to turn on the oven in the summer?
Lily Parker-McLaughlin, an 11-year-old from Wayne, has an answer for an apple pie craving.
Her "Apple Pie Yogurt in a Mug" recipe was unanimously selected as the winner of the first 2014 Farm Fresh Recipe contest of the Bowling Green Farmers' Market.
"It's a great, easy recipe that combines healthy, wholesome ingredients," said contest judge Mat Manley, director of operations at Heritage Corner Health Care Campus.
Lily said she came up with the Apple Pie Yogurt recipe on a lark, jotted it down and submitted it for the contest. She did try it out on grandma Sandy Parker, too.
She's been whipping up batches of the mugs for her cousins who have gathered from across the country to attend the funeral of her other grandmother, Kathleen McLaughlin, who died last week.
"I think it's because apple pies, you have to bake and stuff. But this you don't have too," Lily said of the recipe's popularity.
Around her house, which is out in the country, Lily concocts all kinds of creations from berry patches and a herb garden in the yard.
"I just know what fits together," she said, adding that she has a penchant for smoothies.
