The intersection at Haskins and Poe fully re-opened Friday with a bevy of new features after a month-long
closure.
Public Works Director Brian Craft said left turn lanes were added on Haskins Road, turn radiuses were
widened, and sidewalks were expanded to five feet from four feet due to foot traffic for events such as
the fair and tractor pull. Additionally, new curbs were put in, and sidewalks in the area were extended
south.
The project was funded through a Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments program in which 80
percent of the project was paid for with federal dollars, with a 20 percent local match. Of the
approximately $641,000 cost of the project, the city paid about $128,200.
The north-south portion of the intersection was closed beginning April 21. The general contractor on the
project was Gerken Paving, Napoleon.
Craft said that a new traffic signal for the turn lanes should be installed around the Fourth of July, as
well as new street signs and pedestrian crossing timers.
Further work on Poe is expected around the same time next year, from Mitchell Road to Grove Street. That
area is to be repaved and get new curbs, street-markings, upgraded ADA-compliant ramps, and other
improvements. There is also the possibility of ungraded LED lights.
