Wood County residents who require assistance in getting their cats spayed/neutered can turn to the Wood
County Humane Society. The organization, in partnership with Humane Ohio, offers community residents
access to a low-cost spay and neuter option for owned pets and free-roaming cats.
Called SNIP (Spay/Neuter Initiative Program), this allows local residents to pay a nominal fee in
exchange for transportation of their animal to the Humane Ohio clinic in Toledo (provided by the WCHS).
The fee also covers the cost of the procedure. The cost to spay/neuter owned cats is $50 and all owned
cats must be transported in a hard-sided plastic carrier. The cost to spay/neuter free-roaming cats is
$30. All free-roaming cats must be transported in a live trap and get an ear tip. Live traps and
carriers can be borrowed with a $50 refundable deposit. Participants are provided pre- and
post-operation care instructions.
In 2012, SNIP serviced 144 shelter cats and 298 public cats. In 2013, the SNIP program serviced 373 cats.

Drop off time for the animals is 7 a.m. at the WCHS on the Thursday of the scheduled appointment. The
animal can also be brought to the shelter the night before for a fee of $10 for each cat. Pick-up time
is the following day at 9 a.m. If the cat is not picked up at this time, then the owner will be charged
a $10 boarding fee.
