Dog shelter is full

The Wood County Dog Shelter was near capacity this week, but several rescues and adoptions are expected
to bring the number down.
The shelter can keep up to 30 dogs at a time and sometimes approaches that figure, but typically averages
around a dozen at one time, said Andrew Snyder, chief dog warden.
Friday morning the tally stood at 27, slightly down from earlier in the week.
"We’ve been up around this level – we’ve even had 29 or 30 – for about four or five days,"
Snyder said. "It’s been kind of high for awhile."
The number was expected to fall again Friday with the anticipated rescue of another 3 dogs.
"We have some leaving today, which will help," Snyder said.
When the numbers creep up, extra effort is made to work with those rescue organizations, he said.
"Essentially what we do is a lot of networking. We make the rescues aware we’re getting full.
"If they know a particular shelter is getting full, they’ll work a little harder and take a few more
dogs than they would normally to help us out."
