Flag retirement ceremony set
BRANDER – The Bradner American Legion will hold a flag retirement ceremony Saturday at 6 p.m.
The event will take place in front of the Legion, 209 W. Crocker St.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony, and may bring any flags they have that need to be retired.

Father’s Day meal in Bradner
BRADNER – Bradner American Legion will serve a Father’s Day breakfast Sunday from 8 to 11:30 a.m. The
meal will include eggs, homemade biscuits and gravy, bacon, pancakes, juice, coffee.
The cost is $5.50 per person and carryouts are available by calling 419-288-3634.
WBGU-TV wins two statues
WBGU-TV walked away with two statues June 7 at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Emmy
Awards for the Lower Great Lakes Chapter. The ceremony was held in Cleveland.
Producer Tom Zapiecki won for his research work on "Made in America: The Lima Locomotive Works"
and Producer/Director/Editor Kevin Morrissey received an award in the Student: Arts and
Entertainment/Cultural Affairs category for his work on the "Scenic Stops" featuring Toledo
hip-hop artists S.S.T.R.E.S. and Mighty Wyte.
Learn kayaking Saturday
The Toledo Sail & Power Squadron has planned a seminar and Maumee River outing on Saturday for
public participation.
Held in Grand Rapids at River Lures, 24316 Front St., the kayak seminar will be 9 to 11:30 a.m., followed
by lunch, and then a two hour/six mile trip down the Maumee River.
Kayaks will be provided by River Lures and all participants will be transported back to Grand Rapids
following the trip down the river.
The river run will end across the river from Otsego Park. The cost is $40 and this includes class
materials, lunch and kayak rental. If participants want to use their own kayak, River Lures will charge
$17 to transport the kayak back to River Lures.
River Lures has life jackets to use, but class participants are encouraged to bring their own.
Class time class participants will need to bring lawn chairs to sit on.
