‘Party with the Penguins’ at zoo’s wine tasting Friday
TOLEDO – Enjoy the finer things in life, after hours at the Toledo Zoo. On Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m., the
zoo hosts its final wine tasting of the season at the all-new Penguin Beach exhibit.
Test taste buds with the Guess the Grape challenge, and enjoy entertainment by the Toledo School for the
Arts Glass City Steel.
Reserve a space by calling the zoo at 419-385-5721, extension 6001 by 3 p.m. today. Online reservations
are also available at toledozoo.org/wine, with discounted pricing available for groups.
Participants must be 21 or over to attend the wine-tasting event. Tickets must be purchased in advance
and reservations are required. Costs start at $40 for zoo members and $45 for non-members.
Bridge Offering Nature of Grief workshop for children
VAN BUREN – Bridge Bereavement Services is offering a Nature of Grief Workshop for children on Tuesday
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Shelter House #3 at Van Buren State Park, 12259 Township Road 218. The
workshop is part of Bridge’s Group STAR (Special Times Always Remembered), a program for children ages
6-12 who have experienced the loss of a loved one.
During this workshop, children will learn through various outdoor activities how the life cycle of
nature, like a human’s, experiences birth, growth and death.

Paramedic graduates listed
Archbold’s Four County Career Center Adult Education Division recently graduated 18 students in the
Paramedic Programs at the career center, Wood County Hospital and Monclova Township Fire Department.
The 18-month program includes classroom and lab training, clinical rotation at area hospitals and trauma
centers in Toledo, and ride time with area EMS life squads.
Receiving their plaques for completing the program at Wood County Hospital were Daniel Long, Bloomdale;
Brian Meade, Bowling Green; Jay Caldwell, Luckey; Jason Sallows, Toledo; Benjamin VanAtta, Findlay;
Branden Abke, Luckey; Daniel Dorner, Rossford, and Michael Green, Perrysburg.
Pemberville Pool now open
PEMBERVILLE – Starting Friday, hours for the Pemberville Community Pool will be 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9
p.m. every day.
Starting Monday, the pool will offer water aerobics with instructor Kristin Long. The class will be
offered every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 5 p.m.
Hearts and Minds program for mental health month
Mental health is an essential element of overall well-being. Mental health means more than just the
absence of mental illness. It is also involves prevention: establishing a healthy way of life.
This month, the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Wood County will offer "Hearts and
Minds," a free three-week series on maintaining healthy habits for both mind and body. The three
sessions will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the NAMI Wood County office at 541 W. Wooster St., second
floor.
The first session on Tuesday will deal with setting goals. The second, on June 17, will cover healthy
eating. On June 24, the final class will focus on exercise. All three sessions will begin with a
demonstration of Tai Chi, the ancient Chinese practice of meditation through movement. Each class will
end with 15 minutes of silent meditation.
"Hearts and Minds" is being offered at NAMI affiliates all over the United States. NAMI is the
nation’s premier education and advocacy organization for families affected by mental illness. For more

Sleep and sleep disorders program topic at Way Library
PERRYSBURG – Michael Neeb, Ph.D. of Mercy will present an educational program titled "Running on
Empty: The Importance of Sleep" on Monday at 7 p.m. at Way Public Library. The presentation will
focus on sleep and sleep disorders.
Neeb is the director of the Mercy Sleep Disorders Program. He is board-certified by the American Board of
Sleep Medicine as a Diplomate in Sleep Medicine, with a second board-certification in Behavioral Sleep
Medicine.
He is the director of two Sleep Disorders Centers for the Mercy system, as well as the co-director of the
Children’s Sleep Program at Mercy Children’s Hospital.
He has more than 30 years’ experience in the field of sleep medicine, with special interests in the areas
of insomnia, pediatric sleep, circadian rhythm disorders, and sleep and public safety.
Free blood pressure screenings will also be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
