Koenigsegg backs out of plan to buy Saab from GM J 2009-11-24 10:35:58 Maybe their holding out to see if GM has further problems and they can pick up Saab super cheap, or even out of bankruptcy.
Portage patrolling pulled over concernedcitizen 2009-11-24 11:02:31 i have no idea when you attened a court session but there has not been more than three officers there since July. one in with the clerk one walking transcripts back and forth and one beside the magistrate. where have you heard about auxiliary coming in you have alot of info. and what would it hurt to have auxiliary if nothing else to slow the speeders down. no this chief was not around when there was hiding in the bushes. he has been a good chief and Portage will sorry to lose him. village still has to pay for gas for the big truck to haul your leaves and workers comp for the rest of the employees oh and auto ins for the truck and all the repairs for the truck who decided we needed that truck. we need to cut the pay of some of our village employees we have a clerk treasurer who works 6 hours a week and council meetings and he gets $1550.00 a month that breaks down to $51.67 per hour whats wrong here? start looking at everything not just the cops!!!
Portage patrolling pulled over cynthia 2009-11-24 12:32:34 Thank goodness the reign of the speed trap is over. Good riddens to the Portage Police Department!
Portage patrolling pulled over oldham 2009-11-24 13:19:22 BOB HAS DONE A GOOD JOB FOR THE VILLAGE. HE'S A PEOPLE PERSON AND WON'T HAVE A HARD TIME FINDING ANOTHER JOB IN HIS FIELD. CYNTHIA, I DETECT SOME "SOUR GRAPES" ON YOUR COMMENT.
Portage patrolling pulled over Ben S. Shaw 2009-11-24 15:23:58 Well, I don't remember any Chief Bartz in Portage in 2004. I never seen him until he took over as Chief of Portage and it's kind of odd,or am I the only one that notices, that the problems with the village started when he took over as Chief! It's funny that he gave himself full time hours instead of giving hours to a patrolman at less money. That to me is self serving and not considering the village and the financial crisis that they were in. He, to me, is selfish and that does not make him a people person... Just a B.S'er and who all bit into it or defends him weak-minded!
Portage patrolling pulled over oldham 2009-11-24 16:46:55 THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IN THE VILLAGE IS UNCONTROLLED SPENDING, THAT SIMPLE. LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS. SO SIMPLE TO UNDERSTAND BY A CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN. WAY TOO MANY DUMBACRATES!
Portage patrolling pulled over Mark Foster 2009-11-24 18:57:38 Funny the stories they like to talk about are the semi's going 65, someone going 45 in a 25, etc. How about all the times people got pulled over for BS like a dim headlight, a license plate light being out, 7 over, loud mufflers, etc. The town was setup to be a speed trap 55-50-35-25 all in about 300 feet good riddance to you losers no one is going to miss you. And just so your clown council is clear, i've contacted the major businesses out there about the the annexing and am in the process of setting up a fund the employees can contribute to fight you idiots. if each employee gives 20.00 to the legal fun they will be able to spend you loser into the ground and you'll NEVER annex anyone!
Portage patrolling pulled over Wow 2009-11-24 20:06:31 A speed trap? Did the Portage Police officers MAKE YOU SPEED? What the heck is this 'speed trap?' If you speed, you will get pulled over. Its a shame you people don't know how to abide by the law.... Its really not that difficult. Those numbers on the signs mean thats how fast you can go... anything over that and you can get pulled over. So what if it was 7 over the limit? It is STILL SPEEDING! Who cares if they hid? If you were speeding, then you were speeding, quit being a wuss. Geeze people. And 4 or 5 officers at mayors court? Please, how about 2 or 3 at most? And there are there for a good reason. I wish nothing but the best to you and your family Cheif Bartz.
Portage patrolling pulled over Ben S. Shaw 2009-11-25 06:48:11 Everybody loves Chief Bartz, so just read a Toledo Blade article dated June 6th, 2007. I don't need to say more! Game...Set...Match!!
Portage patrolling pulled over Tom Butters 2009-11-25 08:37:44 When I referred earlier that an over abundance of Police Officers at your Mayors Court, it was not something that has happened recently. I am referring to the scheduling done in the past. Remember, your budget woes didn't happen recently. Your budget has not been controlled for years. I sat through many court sessions and witnessed 4 to 5 Police Officers on the payroll. One of the officers was the Chief of North Baltimore working with your "hero" Chief Bartz. If you think 3 Police Officers are necessary at your little traffic court then you really don't understand why you are operating in the RED. Stop by sometime and take a look at Bowling Green Municipal Court, a real court, and witness how much staff it takes to operate. You will only see one Officer in the courtroom. Ofcourse that is what budget minded people do in tuff times, not village idiots. Since the "hero" Chief Bartz is buddies with the Chief of North Baltimore he can go work down there, we don't need him. Again I say an auxiliary police department is crazy, but we have plenty of money.
Portage patrolling pulled over Ben S. Shaw 2009-11-25 09:12:24 I too have witnessed 4 to 5 cops (I use the term loosely) at their kangaroo court and I have also seen 2 cops (once again loosely) in one piece of crap police car watching traffic! Your little ink spot of a village isn't Detroit or Toledo or even Haskins! I mean how many cops does it take to write a speeding ticket (2... 1 to hold the pen and 1 to hold the ticket book). Talk about mismanagement and the Chief as much as he is to blame, the Mayor is equally to blame for allowing that mismanagement to happen. I am sure someone will be writing how great Chief Bartz is without reading the article and if that's the person you want to back then some people have a problem! I will never understand that and that is why there will always be corruption and it will never end! It takes a better person to research and be informed in order to stop the corruption! It takes a lesser person to just talk without having the information AND that makes you look like an idiot!

Portage patrolling pulled over PortageWorkerBGResident 2009-11-25 13:59:43 I am STILL laughing with glee at the demise of the little authority mongers who are losing their battle to stay afloat. There are hundreds, if not thousands of cynthias and Mark Fosters and people like myself who have nothing but disdain for that redundant backwater. I am going to fly 55 all the way down 25 as soon as I can. Those cops will probably never work "law enforcement" (another loose term) ever again! HA! Good Riddance indeed! To all the idiots defending Portage: HAHAHA! I'll honk at you as I speed right on past. Maybe I'll even take off my front plate or disable one of my taillights just for kicks! No more kangaroo court in Nowhereville! I am happy.
BGSU planning incentive to reduce staff Student 2009-11-25 14:18:09 So the Cartwright's solution to a budget crunch is to offer a payout to get rid of veteran faculty? Is this really a solution? Maybe they will hire a bunch of cheap first-year teachers to give a "college education" and see if the dumbing-down effect happening in America right now can be sped up! As a student, I want high-caliber experienced teachers. Please do not try to get rid of them. Oops...too late! No wonder I quickly heard about 4 top-notch teachers who have fled this administration for opportunity elsewhere.

If it can be proven it's good with me.
To the Editor: Most valued principle: 'All men are created equal' Marlene 2009-11-25 18:19:36 Texas -- I'd like to remind you that most of the deregulation in this country came at the hands of the Republicans. I'd like to remind you that most of the companies who broke their unions and jumped to Mexico at taxpayer expense came at the hands of the GOP. I'd like to remind you that the immoral and unconstitutional Patriot Act came at the hands of the GOP. IMNSHO, the worst that has happened to this country has come at the hands of conservatives. They shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a budget, nor dictate morality for the next thousand years or more.
Portage patrolling pulled over habib 2009-11-25 22:01:03 You know ive avoided going through Portage whenever I could because of the speed trap issues and the BS little tickets you get. As another posted said 55-50-35-25 in 300 feet is ludicrus!. I could see 55-45 then down to 35 in 1000 feet or so but even thats a joke. your town is nothing more than a bunch of poodunks from poodunkville. good riddance portage speed trap.. I might even want to travel down rte 25 through your town after december 31st.. I sure as heck wouldnt stop though what a cesspool.
To the Editor: Harry the Mailman will keep delivering Santa letters Doug 2009-11-26 06:29:48 There is no greater gift than a gift from the heart! Thank you Harry for the reminder of what Christmas is truly all about. God Bless You !
To the Editor: Most valued principle: 'All men are created equal' brutus 2009-11-26 07:33:10 So gargie, when are you going to start reading and understanding the Constitution?
Portage patrolling pulled over its time 2009-11-26 08:10:46 It is not hard to see from the comments the consensus of frustration with the Portage Police. I have no doubt your leaders are good men, but why so many tickets for minor offenses. I'm a big fan of the police, but please. Tickets for no front plate, and going 35 by the trail are unnecessary. Why is it 25 mph in that tiny town? It's 4 lanes, and I never see a soul in that town. Maybe if there were kids around, or accidents that created a need for more safety. That is the definition of a speed trap. Quick change in speed limit for no safety reason. Sorry to say, I'm with everyone else. I won't miss that department, and I won't have to drive around the long way now - I'll drive down 25. The question is, when will the limit be raised to 35 or 40?
BGSU planning incentive to reduce staff yes 2009-11-26 08:18:05 Or... they are getting rid of the boring old professors that don't care anymore, don't put in the effort, and are overpaid. BCII move from BG to Toledo may again be in play bgtownie 2009-11-26 16:26:08 I think it would make more sense to leave it here in Bowling Green. If Toledo already has one they can use it does seem to make more sense to leave here and with it being right off I-75 A lot easier to access. If you like your current health care keep it, if not there will be better options...and Latta doesn't want to fix it, he wants to keep it the same. Your letter makes no sense at all. He has the "gold plated health care" already so he doesn't care....And show me a link or something where you got your 80% like their health care........

When I read your letter to the editor it reminded me of when I was a little girl and how I look forward to writing Santa every year. I grew up in Haskins and we had the same Mrs. & Mrs. Santa Claus for years and we could call and talk to them and find a personalized handwritten letter in the mailbox as well. I still have the very first one I received as a little girl. Although, we don't live in the bird district I truly hope those families realize how fortunate they are to have a mail carrier like yourself. God Bless you Harry.. and thank you for keeping the spirit alive!
Weston Legion members enjoy larger post home Joe Schroeder 2009-12-01 08:00:38 I am very proud of our local American Legion Post. They have turned an otherwise vacant building into a beautiful landmark for our town. It's too bad Huntington Bank couldn't have been as generous to the Weston American Legion by just "giving" them the building instead of asking them to take out a mortgage. I guess when Huntington gave BGSU the former MAISI building on Research Drive in BG, they knew that BGSU would have more on deposit than our American Legion Post. So sad the way the bank has taken advantage of our small town.
Otsego takes step to build school Past supporter 2009-12-01 08:55:41 Garber says the states financial outlook is gloomy? So you want to build a new building that will cost more to operate then existing and take on more debt? Did anyone notice the 3 new board members elected are for keeping the schools in their present location. No one will support a future levy if they go forward with this plan.I don't care how many school staff members that Marie Thomas interviews in support of this. I hope the new board cancels this plan and pays the loan fine off with cuts in the administration, We have seen no savings in the consolidated Junior-Senior high.
To the Editor: Don't throw out what we have, just fix it Goldenhorse 2009-12-01 09:22:15 Thanks for the letter Doug. You are so right-Latta is doing a great job for those of us who love our country and want it to stay free and strong. To the rest of the commenters: (especially brutus)Only someone who thinks the usps is run efficiently or that Congress uses frugality or that the IRS is compassionate would love the proposed health care!!! Cuz that's how health care would be run....go check out a VA hospital and get a clue.
Otsego takes step to build school OTres 2009-12-01 10:02:42 I agree that the school board needs to get out of the construction business and educate the kids, as so many voters have stated. We do not have the money to support the project. The financial forecast from May indicated a $2.2 million deficit which was wiped out in the October forecast based on political deceit. The current board has had only one item on their mind, a monument. It will be an empty monument when the reality finally hits. I hope the new board follows the voters and not the cheerleaders, as most of the cheerleaders probably don't vote. The election of 3 new members to the board should be a mandate for the lame duck current board to stop the current madness.
To the Editor: Don't throw out what we have, just fix it brutus 2009-12-01 10:09:15 Already have checked out a VA hospital in Ann Arbor, several times. Everyone was nice and the care was wonderful. So why should the IRS be nice to people like you who don't pay their taxes and are unpatriotic and refuse to support our troops with tax dollars? I would say Latta only cares about a small % in his district. That also isn't very patriotic. He should represent all of us. And I would say you don't love our country because you are willing to let 45,000 people die each year because of the lack of healthcare.
To the Editor: Don't throw out what we have, just fix it Tired 2009-12-01 10:27:50 I love it when the rightys think that they love our country more than everybody else. Give me a break! Read the letter by V. N. Krishnan, at least this person knows what they are talking about and don't get their talking points by watching or listening to the mouth pieces of the right. It's not about right or left it is about advancing this country forward! It just so happens that this is being done by a president you didn't vote for. Get over it...

To the Editor: Don't throw out what we have, just fix it Bunker 2009-12-01 12:01:12 Tired, the links to the 80% of people who like their health care are as follows: http://gallup.com/poll/123149/cost-is-foremost-healthcare-issue-for-americans.aspx or for a report with many polls try http://www.law.uh.edu/healthlaw/perspectives/2009/(cc)%20insurance.pdf I just googled it! Beck and Rush were not even linked on any of the searches. Doug may not have read the 2000 page healthcare bill, but neither have any of the politicians who want it. Doug gets a pass because he doesn't get to vote for it and force it down your throat. Dems don't read it and still push for it. It could say "65+ equals Soylent Green" or "four feet good, two feet baaaaaaaaad". Just like you sign a contract only after reading it, you should PASS LAWS ONLY AFTER READING THEM! The idea of keeping your current healthcare provider is trumped by ol' BHO saying that he wants a "single payer system" aka GOVERNMENT HEALTH CARE! When the govt pays for it all, they run it. If you want the link to BO saying this, google it - millions of vids showing it!
To the Editor: Rants about socialism lack facts Bunker 2009-12-01 12:47:01 Being a scholar of socialism or whatever, would you be alarmed if THE USA became socialist? Regardless of whether you believe it is happening now or not. Do YOU want a socialist country? Just to be on the record, I say that I don't. The only proof people have is Van Jones, Cass Sunstein, Anita Dunn, Carol Browner, Jerimiah Wright....
Otsego takes step to build school toml 2009-12-01 13:04:56 This entire project is a "no-brainer." What the district will receive for the money they invest is a steal. If the district were to turn their backs on this option they would have many future generations to answer to. New schools K-12 would be a great asset for the Otsego community!
To the Editor: Rants about socialism lack facts brutus 2009-12-01 13:21:33 United States, not divided states. We were founded with socialist principles. No not the Marxist form you wingnuts like to spout, but our communities are social, our military is social, our police and firemen are social, insurance companies are social. We act as one.
Otsego takes step to build school Joe Schroeder 2009-12-01 13:36:38 You have got to be kidding me. This article literally makes me sick to my stomach. I particularly love the line about "no cost to tax payers." I beg to differ, dear board members - the Weston Community has paid dearly for this atrocity, and sadly Haskins and Grand Rapids will soon follow. It certainly seems as if the board is trying to fast track this plan through before our three new elected board members take their seats in January. This is ridiculous. The residents of the Otsego Local School District ought to be very afraid. I just can't see how we are going to build this great new building when the district is financially strapped at "NO COST TO THE TAXPAYER". These kind of risky loans and risky business ventures are the same things that collapsed the mortgage industry and ultimately, the economy. Something is not kosher here, but what will the three outgoing board members care - they are off the hook in a month. Let someone else clean up the mess instead of just listening to the voters. My poor son - thrown into this mess as a student whose parents have absolutely no say in the Otsego dictatorship. Apparently, it's not the voice of the voter that counts - it's the voice of a few loud people at a board meeting that makes the newsworthy majority.
To the Editor: Affordable health care can't wait Bunker 2009-12-01 13:45:26 I am sympathetic to your situation, Debra. I say that ten people will be in line to take any congressional seat (they won't be forced on the new "reformed" health care), but six of the ten want BO's plan shot down! - sourced at http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.cfm?ID=1764 #Also, since you agree that you are better off than a lot of people, you should feel honored that your kids are taken off insurance! Not covering your kids helps keep premiums low for people with kids that have cancer. You don't want kids with cancer to be denied coverage, do you? We need health care reform to make sure all people die equally... maybe we should form some sort of panel!# (this is sarcasm) Since you are in school for psychology, I would think you would be against gov't health care. How much money are you going to invest in your education when the government controls how much you make? If you make it more profitable to be a HVAC technician than a doctor, do you invest the six years for less money? Does our health care system get better or worse if our best and brightest see greener pastures in non-medical fields? When the government controls the costs, it controls the profit (or pay) the doctor makes.
To the Editor: Don't throw out what we have, just fix it Tired 2009-12-01 14:43:43 Thank you Bunker...If you read that poll it states that 80% of people are satisfied with their HEALTH CARE, I should have asked how many are satisfied with their health care costs which is what we are talking about. 61% of are actually satisfied with the costs. 41% are satisfied, 20% are very satisfied. It is a different story for the uninsured but you can read that yourself. Do you know any lawmakers personally? How do you know the "Dems" didn't read it? And from what I understand you don't have to sign up for the single payer system. IT IS FOR THE UNINSURED or those "poor folks, that don't deserve it cause they like to live off the government" We should just let them die huh!

Otsego takes step to build school weston supporter 2009-12-01 15:15:03 It's business as usual for the current school board. They wanted to save 200k to close a school, then turn around and spend tens of millions of dollars to build a new campus, and then spend another 900k to destroy all 3 schools. They certainly can't wait to get their hands on this new state money! They just have to get their business done and spend tons more money before the new school board has to come in and clean up this horrible mess that's taken a toll on the Weston community, and quite ultimately, the entire Otsego community. Not that you care, current board members, but you should be quite proud of what you've done...catch the sarcasm? I can't wait for the new board members to come in and right what has been wronged. Time for a good moral change!
Otsego takes step to build school HASKINS RESIDENT 2009-12-01 15:52:05 I can't believe what these cronies are trying to do. I have been a Haskins resident for 18 years. Ive seen the village grow over the years. A lot of people moved here so their children would be close to school and not have to be bused all over BFE. The town of Haskins will become a bedroom community and stagnate. It will probably go the way of Portage with its police force being unsustainable. I have spent a lot of time and money fixing my house up but now my property value will just go down down down. At some point I will probably have to cut my losses and move out of the area. thanks a lot you Morons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To the Editor: Affordable health care can't wait brutus 2009-12-01 17:41:41 Bunker, The insurance companies control the profit (or pay) now. If you had been hospitalized lately you would know how little Doctors are reimbursed by the insurance companies. Big business controls how much we make now. Where have you been for the last 20 years? And the non medical fields pay has also been stagnant or reduced. Who are you trying to fool? Back up what you say with facts and statistics, not just hot air or opinion polls.
To the Editor: Don't throw out what we have, just fix it Goldenhorse 2009-12-01 19:06:29 Brutus this is directly for you....what a leap you have taken....no surprise though you just spout off without knowing facts about anything and by the way...I DO PAY MY TAXES!!! There are way more VA hospitals that aren't "nice"!!! And nobody is dead in this country because of lack of health care! Although, it does happen in Canada and Englad because they are rationing health care and the long wait for surgeries, medication, etc. causes people to die before they are allowed treatment.
Otsego takes step to build school js 2009-12-01 19:35:55 I applaud the board for moving forward on the new school, the sooner the better. Our kids deserve better than the crowded, antiquated buildings and trailers they're forced to learn in. To the Weston supporter - it might be a good idea if the Haskins police force goes the way of Portage, since they only ticket non-Haskins residents. Maybe that money could be put to better use - A NEW SCHOOL FOR OUR KIDS!
To the Editor: Affordable health care can't wait useyourhead 2009-12-01 19:58:50 Debra " Just like anything else in life nothing is free " ???? Ummmmm what you are asking for IS FREE HEALTH CARE for people that can't afford health care. "So, my voice is for them and all the people who cannot afford to see a doctor or afford to get medicine. If you are in need of medical treatment and medicine, may I suggest contacting Lucas County Health Dept. I'm curious, you have insurance through Ford Co. Did you read your policy where it stated that when kids reach the age of 18 (adults) they wouldn't be covered anymore ? I guess when people don't plan for the future, they count on the govt. to bail them out. Time for people to take responsibility for themselves.
To the Editor: Don't throw out what we have, just fix it useyourhead 2009-12-01 20:07:50 Bob Latta was voted in by the MAJORITY !!!! He IS representing the MAJORITY of the people and doing a great job.

Oh, the Rush and Glenn comments, try to come up with something new. It's old and childish.
To the Editor: Don't throw out what we have, just fix it BGCitizen 2009-12-01 21:05:15 Only 63% of the REGISTERED voters came out that day. Hardly a majority of his constituency. The rest I chalk up to a vote of "no confidence" to either candidate. Also, he is doing a CRAP job. He is catering to exploitative business interests and NOT to the needs of the people in this area. Goldenhorse:"And nobody is dead in this country because of lack of health care". Are you ignorant, out of your mind, brainwashed, or stupid? People like you make us all sick. Seriously, stop watching FOX news, you sound like a retarded sheep. FYI those lies about Canada & England are not true, no matter how much Beck Hannity Limbaugh says so. Oh , btw: the USPS is pretty damn efficient for delivering mail 6 days a week regardless of weather for as long as all of us have been alive. I would LOVE to get treatment at a VA because I have no health care even though I work full time. If I got a terminal disease, guess what? I WOULD DIE FROM IT. Only in the good ol' US of A!
Otsego takes step to build school weston res 2009-12-01 21:05:16 "...our kids deserve better than the crowded, antiquated building and trailers they're forced to learn in." Um, excuse me, they wouldn't have to sit in antiquated buildings and trailers if the building in Weston were left open instead of sitting empty. I can't believe there has been any cost savings whatsoever in closing the Weston building and turning to the use of modular classrooms instead. In Grand Rapids, Toledo Edison is the electric provider and I know they charge at least $30 bucks just to have a meter per month, sans the cost of usage. Since each modular has their own meter, this amounts to $1,400 a year extra. And since those units are heated and cooled by the areas most expensive utility provider, you can just imagine what that cost is! Get rid of the trailer park we call a school district, re-open the Weston building and start showing a little frugality, Board of Education! Oh, but I'm sure an extra 1,400 bucks a year just for the GR modulars is a drop in the bucket compared to the millions you are willing to spend.
Otsego takes step to build school Past, present and future Otsego supporter 2009-12-01 21:07:40 It is gratifying to see the Otsego School Board members stand firm in their convictions and lead us forward. An elementary school is not now, nor ever should have been, a cornerstone or a crutch to any village's success or survival. The board's job is about doing what's best for the Otsego Schools and educating students. We voters elected the school board members to gather information, discuss, debate, consider and act on countless issues to build, strengthen and improve Otsego. This board has done just that. They have done it, unfortunately in an environment with too many vocal, uninformed, some probably non-voting citizens with ulterior motives. Like maybe just looking for an easy excuse, if they do vote, to vote NO for Otsego. It's time more voters/taxpayers step up and do their part and support the public education of our students, just like voters in their parents' and grandparents' generations did for them. Our school board has allowed us to support a school system with newer, updated, efficient facilities. I applaud them and thank them for their dedication and service.
To the Editor: Rants about socialism lack facts Tired 2009-12-01 21:34:26 Let's get back to the letter. Man it sucks when somebody that actually knows what the hell they are talking about debunks the lies...or opinions...if you are worried about socialism then move...and if your house catches fire don't call the fire dept....and if you need the police don't call them either....While your at it don't put your trash out to the curb...Damn Socialists!

Let me understand what you are saying....go to the "Free clinic"? It isn't really free though, it is paid for by our tax dollars..just like everybody else that goes to a hosptial or health dept to seek treatment without insurance. You can tell me that it is different on a county level but it's really not...
BGSU planning incentive to reduce staff Student 2009-12-02 00:06:14 Obviously your faith prevents you from getting educated. Without critical thinking we would be a bunch of sheep running around thinking that the earth was created by a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father who can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree. People like you do not belong in a university. I prefer a university education that includes critical thinking and scientific grounding. If you don't want your ignorance challenged, stay out of school, especially if you think professors are old and boring. You are a buffoon and part of the problem.
Otsego takes step to build school OTres 2009-12-02 05:06:04 To PPF Otsego Supporter, I am certainly concerned that one would believe the school board is perfect in their decisions. It is obvious you believe in circumventing the majority of voters wishes. You believe that the majority should not be allowed to determine how their children should be educated. You believe special needs children should be bussed to North Baltimore. You believe that further cuts in staff is beneficial to the education of children. You believe putting the majority of elementary children on a buss and transporting them from their respective neighborhoods is right. All of this for the sake of a new building. I believe their decisions have become extremely self serving and has not allowed for alternative ideas to come forth. They have spent more time and taxpayers money circumventing the voter than educating our children. Accept the fact, the majority has spoken. Judging by the November vote, the majority has spoken and we now have a bunch of sore losers trying to push the same old agenda. People have voted for a change, accept it.

Otsego takes step to build school taxpayer & parent 2009-12-02 07:28:42 Like it or not, a community school is a cornerstone to our community. When my wife and I refinanced our mortgage this past August, the appraiser noted right on our appraisal "Weston Elementary School, the villages only school building, is closed and empty." - I think I'll show the appraiser this article and tell him "An elementary school is not now, nor ever should have been, a cornerstone or a crutch to any village's success or survival" because it most definitely made a difference on my appraisal!
Otsego takes step to build school Haskins Resident 2009-12-02 08:12:08 JS's comments are absolutely laughable. Obviously he/she received a ticket from Haskins PD. I know they not only ticket non-Haskins residents, but also Haskins residents. Anyhow, the reason why I moved to Haskins was because of the school in our town. I also did so because of the Haskins Police. Nothing is more deterring to a child predator than the police being visible. Haskins PD does a good job of doing so. Now we are also going to put all of our children in one campus. Great idea (sarcasm). This puts all of "our eggs in one basket." With the school shootings of the past this will be a terrible move. I also agree with the fact that my home value will drop because of the school being closed. Thank you Jamie Harter, Lisa Hatfield, Daren Garmenn, Kurt Dickey, and James Garber. Thank you for the destruction of the Otsego School District. Thank you for circumventing the wishes of the people that you serve. Thank you for ensuring that the majority will not support any future levies that are put on. Everyone please remember that when the system collapses we should at least put their names on a plaque and put it on the new, state of the art, empty building so that everyone knows who to blame.

Wind pays off for BG Dudley 2009-12-02 09:46:06 Why is it, that the public does not benefit from the power in terms of a reduction in cost to a home owner, business, and or farms? Especially those who are near such monsters. Though they are in my back yard I receive no reduction in energy cost. It seems it is a money maker for some and the public is yet again left out in the cold. For the good of a few?

I think after all these years they need to look to the future. and keep thier mouths shut and wish him the best.

As a resident of Bloom Twp. his Recycling Business (junkyard) has been nothing but trouble for the township. Perrysburg to toughen curriculum Walter Edinger 2009-12-02 10:13:45 Let me state my point a little differently. When we ask teachers to do something extra that we think is worthwhile for the kids, we should be willing to compensate them for that. It should be worth it to us. It is unfair of me to suggest that they were unwilling. I never heard that from them Instead, I thought then and still think we should provide the incentive. Walt Edinger
BG Junior High assignment sparks memories Debbie Gamble 2009-12-02 10:57:31 Seeing the picture of the space-walk mural really made me stop and think. In July of 1969 I had a day off from summer P.E. to stay home and watch the historic event as the first man stepped on the moon. To be honest, I think I'd rather have had class because there were a couple of guys that looked VERY cute in their (style-of-the-time) SHORT shorts. In September of that same year, I began my "senior" (9th grade) year in this building. I certainly didn't know then how much impact life in that building would have on me. We are scattered all over the world, engage in hundreds of occupations and have families of every description, yet each of us can recall in an instant who we sat with at lunch, what was the most effective way of "escaping" from a Junior High Dance and still presenting the appearance to you parents that you had spend the last four hours safely confined in this building under the direct guidance of the fine faculty, who fell asleep in Miss Galvin's English class and in which room your heart pounded after a single glance of the love of your life.
To the Editor: Affordable health care can't wait useyourhead 2009-12-02 11:19:05 brutus, the comment was addressed to Debra. Are you Debra ? Are you saying there is already a system in place for people that don't have health insurance or can't afford health insurance? To the Editor: Rants about socialism lack facts NotASocialistBut... 2009-12-02 13:47:45 I'm not a Socialist, but establishing a Socialist system in the US would be a step in the right direction. Nevermind what conservative capitalists say. Their system is what has given us an overpopulated and continually damaged planet and a growing gap between the rich and the third world. Rants about socialism DO lack facts. It is an attempt by elites to keep in place a system by which the poor can be exploited for profit. It won't work. Hey conservative capitalists: WATCH OUT!WE ARE COMING FOR YOU! We are the disenfranchised of the world and we are coming to take down your system of expolitation. The American Empire is in decline. It is blatantly obvious to all who are not in fearful denial.

The superior minds on council are planning to keep a few cops, who have nothing better to do with there time, on the auxiliary department. Otsego takes step to build school Teri 2009-12-02 14:18:16 To PPF Otsego Supporter: When people vote for a school board member, it is with the understanding that that person will be the voice of the community. This is how things are usually done in the modern world. The current board members and possibly the PPF Otsego Supporter must not be from the same planet as the rest of us who think the board has really messed things up again. Yes, the board should gather information, discuss, debate, consider and act on issues, but they should also take into consideration what the residents of the district want. None of the board members exhibit any special traits or higher education. They are just people who got into a position to do what they want, when they want to with no consideration whatsoever. I can honestly say I will not miss the members that are being replaced by the new individuals who care about the district. I can hardly wait for the rest of them to be replaced when their terms are up for re-election. Maybe if we are lucky, a new Superintendent will also be named.
