Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year Julie Fitch 2009-11-13 09:55:53 Yes, some of us are relatives - and not afraid to be identified. Everyone here has their own perspective. We are not saying any of these amazing young women did not deserve the honors they received - they all are great players and worked hard this season. It was Cheryl's manipulation of the nominations that is the issue here. I would just like an explanation from Ms. Jones as to why she presented it in this manner.
Bradner gets funds for sewers Tom Butters 2009-11-13 10:00:00 How nice to see a little village actually get things done. Not like the Portage Mayor who never gets anything done, even like paying his taxes and court fines.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year dorene johnson(chelsea's mom) 2009-11-13 10:23:40 Everyone needs to remember that this is not about bashing and degrading children. Yes people you are talking about CHILDREN who have enough to worry about in life!!!!! This problem is Coach Jones's problem for not being fair in the nominations of positions and MVP player. These girls really do love to be with one another so quit bashing the players!!! Coach Jones should explain her actions that caused all of this to happen. I think everyone is just happy to write their opinions -but remember all the team players read these comments...Lets not ruin it for the girls great year together. They held strong together and lasted thru their senior year which doesn't happen too often at Otsego. Of course I will not agree with the people who are venting against individual players. It is too late for Chelsea's recognition at the High School level even though she played her little butt off everytime for Coach, team and fans only to get the wrong nomination. This has to stop in the future so no other player has to be disappointed and frustrated at the end of a terrific season.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year getagrip 2009-11-13 10:39:29 They are young adults just as Coach Jones is an adult. You all are giving your opinion as I will give mine. There is no bashing we are all saying what we feel is true. Of course people will read this, seniors, parents, the coaches, and even the upcoming kids and parents. What a great example you are all setting! The season was great, they had a league championship and a district championship. That is what team play is about. You are right, none of the girls should be disappointed and frustrated at the end of a terrific season, especially over a league vote when in the end of the day it means NOTHING! The team will have a trophy in the trophy case, the girls league plaque's will not! You all need to stop being so selfish and let it go. It is done and over and you should not try to ruin a great career for a great coach!
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year OPEN YOUR EYES 2009-11-13 11:03:32 I was a player for the Otsego volleyball team not too long ago, and let’s just say I know the ins and outs of this volleyball program. It’s obvious that the coaching for this volleyball team is NOT effective. Players DREAD to go to practice and have to deal with the ways of Jones. Manipulation is the only game that Jones knows, and mind games are the only games she knows how to play. From first-hand experience, she says she’s just building “MENTAL TOUGHNESS.” I didn’t know toying with teenagers minds was considered mental toughness now. They are kids and she is an ADULT! They don’t know any better. And for all of you who say coach Jones is a amazing coach? Obviously you’re just as ignorant as the rest of us for not opening up your eyes to see the visible truth. A “GOOD” coach should not tell her players “YOU GUYS ARE PATHETIC!” “You are NOT an athlete if you can’t run the mile in under eight minutes!” “Your last game [that you played awesome in] was just a FLUKE!” She even had the nerve to tell my older sister, a junior at the time, that I, being a freshman, was a better volleyball player than she was when we played together under her. How conniving can you really be Jones to try to break apart two sisters? If you have not played under her you have no idea what this woman is capable of! She has been doing this for years!! She takes advantage of the young girl’s minds that play for her and manipulate them into little dogs of hers. Obeying every command she demands, and if they were to disobey their shot at anything immediately vanishes. I feel so bad for those who were left to dry this volleyball season. It is clearly obvious that if you are not the “CHOOSEN ONE,” you amount to nothing. For those who say you know Jones and how she is a great person and great coach you do know that she preaches honesty, trust, respect, sportsmanship and all these good qualities to teach her players as well as her students. Don’t you think it is ironic that everything she is teaching these girls she is not even practicing herself? How dishonest and disrespectful can you be putting players up for nomination in positions that they didn’t even play during the season? Bollenbacher for middle hitter when everyone saw her play 99% of her games as an outside hitter and Holtzwart for outsider hitter when she played 99% of her games as a middle hitter all season long. Jones had her head stuck in her stats book during the whole game, how could she have made that big of a mistake? And for those who say these payers wouldn’t of had made first team if they were up again those from other teams that actually played that position, it’s not about that! The girls didn’t even get the chance to go up against those who they were competing against. THE COACH PURPOSLY DID THIS!! Not only did she hurt her own volleyball team, but she also hurt every other team in the SLL. And it was just her luck right that she was the one running the nomination meeting. Nothing like having everything laid out right in the palm of her hand. Jones does not practice what she preaches and she is a HYPOCRIT!! Her “ONE TEAM ONE DREAM” saying is getting old; it looks MORE like its “HER TEAM HER DREAM!” Why are so many people defending her? She already has a file stacked up against her from years before from people who have had problems with her! Most of you think this is some new thing and it’s not! People are just tired of her ways and want a stop in her manipulative ways and mind games. She is being exposed and it’s about time a HIGHER UP AUTHORITY does something about. If it wasn’t for the pure talent of this senior class, this volleyball TEAM would not have gotten as far as they did. How immature can you be for singling out players? This was a TEAM effort and they did do a great job! A league championship and a district championship!! Wow not a lot of teams can say that they have accomplished so many great things. CONGRADULATIONS TO THE ENTIRE TEAM!!!!
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year OPEN YOUR EYES 2009-11-13 11:05:56 ***CONGRATULATIONS!
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year Seriously! 2009-11-13 11:15:20 Does anyone elso wander what the heck "Open your eyes" is saying?
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year dorene johnson 2009-11-13 11:16:34 Wrong is Wrong. People should be held responsible for their actions. Who is getagrip?? Why don't you identify yourself?? You are also setting a great example by hiding your name behind getagrip? The team, parents, fans did not cause this. It will be settled when there is a positive change at the Otsego volleyball. I hope no other player will have to go thru this again. How can you say this is nothing??? Must be something with this huge response from the result of Coach Jones's nominations. This is how she thanks some players for all their hard work. It is not right period.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year getagrip 2009-11-13 11:51:59 No thanks, you do not know me and by identifying myself, it will create an opportunity for you to set another great example for you to think you and your daughter are better than someone else! The only thing that will be settled if Coach Jones is out is win's vanishing away from the program.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year Lynn 2009-11-13 11:54:56 I am a player from another team in the SLL and i know for a fact that Chelsea did not play middle. She was an AMAZING outside hitter for otsego and helped them alot. So whoever "..." is you need to realize you are wrong and realize chelsea was a OUTSIDE hitter. She should have had first team outside over ashley any day. Their coach is the screw up, and is screwing her own players over. CHELSEA BOLLENBACHER DESERVES FIRST TEAM OUTSIDE HITTER!!!!!
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year curious 2009-11-13 12:00:43 Dorene- What SLL teams do you feel your daughter played well against?
To the Editor: Latta should work in bipartisan way Relax 2009-11-13 12:09:25 We live in a democratic society, so people can vote for who they want and the majority voted for Latta. Get over it!
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year Julie Fitch 2009-11-13 12:17:48 OK getagrip, in what universe would someone say "Chelsea Bolenbacher was not. . .smart enough to receive an honor" and not call that bashing? Also, most of these girls are under 18, still technically children, stll in high school, and not adults. C'mon, play fair.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year dorene johnson 2009-11-13 12:19:00 Curious-Why not identify yourself??? I will not go there and am DONE commenting on this whole issue. I just had to speak up when individuals were saying negative things about the individual players- the children. Justice will be served someday to unfair people. Again the whole team was great this year and will be missed on the court.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year getagrip 2009-11-13 12:37:36 That was not correct terminology for what I meant, I guess. Not bashing her, she probably is a bright young adult. I meant volleyball wise and quick enough to read where a hit might be going because of her heighth. Just proving a point that she did not play all the way around, where all of the girls who received first team probably never came out of the game.
To the Editor: Latta should work in bipartisan way Tired 2009-11-13 12:47:01 And Latta does not represent his constituency! When he only allows one side of the population to be heard or included in his "townhall meetings" there is only one solution. VOTE HIM OUT!
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year Chelsea Bollenbacher 2009-11-13 13:26:45 Thanks for all the slaps in the face and the comments that were nice too me. How can you sit here and say that i didnt deserve any honors at all, or that im selfish for that fact. You obviously DONT KNOW ME. If im so slow and not quick on the court then how did i get a scholarship? I guess i never knew I was that bad for people to say it on here through comments rather than to my face. I worked hard everyday for that team. I even played with an injured back cause i didnt want to let my team down. So please sit there and tell me how selfish i am for that reason. I cant believe half of you people! You have no room to tell us what we do and do not deserve. Im sick of all of it. To read half of the things some of you have just said about me tore me apart, hope your happy for that reason. You can even ask Ashely, the very next day i went up to here and congratulated her for getting first team. SELFISH? i think not. This year was a great year for our whole team and all of you just ruined it. I honestly dont give a crap about the honors at all. But to put it out there i would have rather not have been noticed at all then to be noticed for something i didnt do this year. I was yelled at everyday for not being able to be the middle and truely im okay with that. Yes Ashely is the better middle and playing all the way around has NOTHING TO DO WITH IT! dont sit here and act like you know what your talking about when you dont know half the story or havent been on that court with Miss Jones. so bash me some more if you feel like you need to but how can you sit there and judge me. Obviously i did something right to be going on to play another 4 years of college volleyball:) Obviously im not a FLUKE!
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year Don Rahrig 2009-11-13 13:43:06 Guess what getagrip she played the positions the COACH allowed her to play.Guess what in the winter league she even Serves and a pretty good one.I suggest you all act like adults. If you never played or never had a child play I suggest you keep comments to yourself.I had daughters and grand-daughters play.Guess what getagrip I put my name behind my words. Don Rahrig
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year fellow otsego student 2009-11-13 13:56:21 do you people realize what you are doing sitting here bashing on chelsea and the other girls? i would like to think that adults would set the example, but i guess i was wrong. today a group of girls got on here and read all the comments that you are leaving and i am ashamed that u can sit here and bash on chelsea like that. she was an outsaide hitter i asked three or four volleyball players today and they all had the same out come. now why would the coach do that? not to take away from ashley but i watched 5 to 6 volleyball games and i never saw chelsea playing anywhere other than outside. as a fellow athlete i would just like to say if that was me i would be upset too and would speak up just as these people are because its not fair to chelsea one bit to take that away from her. she worked just as hard as everyone else..... p.s. baley looked like a big leader to me and its crap to say she wasnt because just watching without her the team would have struggled dearly... a leader is someone who helps the team and girls look up to, now to me that could describe a few of the seniors but to say baley was not a leader is a lie. baley and chelsea worked their butts off and it was noticable to a observer. good job ladies, and autumn congrats.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year IVolleyball 2009-11-13 14:13:03 Congrats on your scholarship! Not many people that are 6'2" are quick, it is a known fact, not a knock. Also, congrats on 2nd Team, it is great accomplishment. There is already a scholarship in place people, everyone should call it quits on here! Have a great weekend.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year a Proud Parent from the Past. 2009-11-13 15:11:21 All these comment are Years of Feelings by Parents that have had to deal with Coach Jones. Yes she is the coach and If my daughters wanted to play for Otsego, they had to listen to her. Both of my daughters played for her, and at one time she as playing mind games against 2 sisters. I couldn't say anything to Coach Jones because if I did, she would hold it against my other daughter and my niece. My youngest daughter won't play for Coach Jones because of all the things she has seen though her Sisters, cousin, and friends eyes, I know A LOT of parents that feel the same way. It is Time for a CHANGE. TO THE GIRLS of this years Otsego team. I am so PROUD of you. I loved watching you and seeing you growing into wonderful young ladies. For all the comments good or bad from this story. It all comes down to Coach Jones NOT the players. Please remember that when you start bashing these young ladies, they play for the love of the game.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year a proud parent from the past 2009-11-13 15:44:55 Oh I am proud to say my name is Denise Schutzberg.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year shut up people 2009-11-13 19:16:42 These commments are ridiculous!! I am an Otsego fan and I enjoy watching them play. I have played for Miss. Jones and she was wonderful. Miss Jones has helped me with not only volleyball but also being a better person. Anyone you complains about Miss. Jones is just lazy and cannot handle the truth. You can not possibly think that posting these horrid comments will change anything!! Autumn deserves this, she is an awesome player and has inspired many younger players. All of the otsego girls are sucessfull and should be forever thankful to Miss. Jones for all that she has done for them
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year are you kidding? 2009-11-13 19:28:02 1. Miss Jones has made you a better person - is that where the "shut up people" comes from? 2. Yes, Autumn is an awesome player and deserves her award. 3. I am not lazy. 4. I can handle the truth, it's the outright lying and manipulating I have trouble with.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year meghan bressler 2009-11-13 20:13:18 Chelsea Bollenbacher you are a heck of a player. You forsure impressed me. I thought you were extremely good. These people that are bashing you are completely ridiculous and i bet half of them have never played a day of volleyball in their entire life. So don't let them bring you down. Those who are bashing Miss. Jones I feel are out of line. She is coaching how she wants to coach and it worked. Look how far the team got. I wish I could play for Miss Jones for the rest of my club years because I feel she would make me a better player like she has done for me the last two years. All of the comments are not doing any good but hurting people's feelings. Look at the comments about Chelsea. She is being put down and she hasn't even done anything. Miss. Jones is being ripped on and all she wanted to do was make the team better and get as far as they could in the tourney. I admire Miss. Jones and all of the Otsego players for they truely do know the meaning of the game of volleyball!
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year otsego fan club 2009-11-14 03:44:55 once again.....It was Coach Jones who caused this whole issue to finally explode. She was the one who manipulated the nominations for the SLL honors and MVP honors at the end of a great season for a group of fantistic volleyball players. THIS IS THE MAIN IDEA of all these comments.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year Outsider looking in 2009-11-14 06:30:45 I think the Sentinel just needs to take the comments off this section and let things play out as they may. The administration will get the facts and things will be resolved to their satisfaction. The truth will come out. You will all have your own opinions. You will all believe what you want. Coach Jones is going to have people on both sides. However, it's the higher ups who will decide the outcome of this mess. Best of Luck to Baley, Autumn and Chelsea. I loved watching you play.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year right vs wrong 2009-11-14 06:51:48 The problem here has nothing to do with who won or didn't win an award. It has to do with the hurt and betrayal these young women are feeling because of the actions of a coach they trusted; one who preached honesty and integrity. Who would we - the parents, families, and friends of these girls - be if we chose to simply ignore this? What message would that send to them? Cheryl Jones essentially works for the taxpayers and citizens of the Otsego district. We have an obligation to question what appears to be a deliberate, malicious act on Ms. Jones's part. If she truly did nothing questionable, she has nothing to worry about.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year Taxpayer 2009-11-14 08:18:34 "Cheryl Jones essentially works for the taxpayers and citizens of the Otsego district".....And we all know how much the Otsego District listens to the taxpayers!! THEY DON'T
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year right vs wrong 2009-11-14 08:58:29 Let's stick with the issue. That's for another forum.
G. Rapids volunteer of year named Joel Huffman 2009-11-14 10:44:46 Congrats Chuck, I cannot think of anyone more deserving!
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year Laura Sanchez 2009-11-14 17:43:45 To "Open Your Eyes People," "Getagrip," "Curious," and Coach Jones. Athletics is intended to build strong, gifted, capable people. In high school, athletics is meant to nurture children and help them develop skills they will take later into adulthood. Since Title IX, voluminous research shows the benefits of team sports especially to girls and young women as they learn to assert themselves, take pride in their efforts, and give their best to a team. Parents hope they can give their daughters the gifts of success, self-esteem, and happiness through their years spent in team sports. And so I am dismayed that these young women and their families and friends and community have to suffer in this way now. Integrity is never important for oneself. Integrity is what you bring to your community. I sincerely hope that the Otsego school administration looks into this matter and that Coach Jones readily and swiftly brings integrity matched with kindness in her efforts to reach out to the families and girls who are looking for answers. I see no reason why a community of families and children should end a successful season feeling demoralized. I encourage Coach Jones to demonstrate leadership by seeking remedies for these families.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year 1986 Graduate 2009-11-14 19:45:46 I played 6 years of volleyball at Otsego back in the 80's. I was coached by Cheryl as well. I will say we had our share of ups and downs and Dorene you certainly remember those don't you? Your senior year?? You.. Jeannie.. Lisa.. The game has changed tremendously since then but unfortunately the same old mental gamesmanship has not. Looking back now as an adult it was very clear that Cheryl showed partiality and often found herself in the middle of our "personal" business often attempting to play one player against another despite the strong friendships we had.. As an educator myself.. are we not expected to teach our children the value of honesty? We all make mistakes but to deliberately favor one over another is just wrong on many levels. I stopped attending games long ago after I heard Cheryl giving the same speech to her existing team that I heard back in the 80's... Let's face it Cheryl has been married to Otsego Volleyball for 20+ years it's her life.. she eats, sleeps, and breathes it.. The complaints have been never-ending throughout the years and my question is now posed to Mr. Bernthisel.. Now that the BS affects you and your child... Are you ready to listen and perhaps make a change at Otsego? Perhaps now that you and your loved one has experienced the pain you will do the right thing.. and encourage Miss Jones to step down!
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year SMeyers 2009-11-14 20:40:26 I am at once both ashamed of members of the Otsego community (past and present) and elated that the volleyball team had a phenomenal season. I had the pleasure of watching a match this year and was blown away with the pure skill the players demonstrated. I believe that Miss Jones in an amazing human being and I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to have her as one of the most influential role models during my adolescence. I believe that most of the negative comments above and those that have been voiced in years past come from individuals who lack the insight to understand Miss Jones' "agenda." As an educator, coach and mentor, every day presents new opportunities to help young adults learn how to carefully consider and define their values; Jones allowed me to evolve as a human being. There have been many incidents in the history of Otsego athletics where scholar-athletes did not receive the accolades that they deserved; we all know how politics plays a role in what scholar-athletes receive which awards. There are athletes who deserved more than what they received and those who were given honors that they did not deserve. Autumn Berry is an outstanding volleyball player and her leadership and dedication to the TEAM make her an uncontested Player of the Year. Cheryl Jones is a caring, kind, strong and intelligent woman who truly cares about all of her athletes.
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year right vs wrong 2009-11-15 13:09:23 So, do we just ignore this and chalk it up to "politics as usual" or is it time to take a stand and make a change?
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year life not fair 2009-11-15 13:59:31 Miss Jones is a good teacher and Coach Autum Berry DOES deserve her award. Baley's parents have a chase of sour grapes, her father is the AD at Otsego ever talk to him about an in justice with your child??? you get no where, he alows coaches to cut people than put a student on a team that never tried out!!! just because the students Mom is friends with the JV coach Nick Nicley!!! Watch out Volleyball and baseball parents! I was told by Baileys Dad I just had "a case of sour grapes" they don't taste good do they? Mr. Bernthsel
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year Lauren Fitch 2009-11-15 16:04:48 I would love to comment on the above post but am afraid that I am confused about where exactly the thoughts are going. As a family member, I know that Baley, Jill, and Scott love that Autumn is player of the year and that Baley was recognized for her middle blocking so I don't know what sour grapes you are referring to. Did they talk to you and tell you something different because I don't see any posts on here written by anyone in the Bernthisel family? I certainly hope they are not feigning excitement when I call them or else I'm going to have to bring it up at Thanksgiving dinner and that could get awkward. If you're going to comment about the issue, try to stick to the issue.

Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year Amazed 2009-11-15 18:03:12 Amazed: As I understand it, Otsego was CO-SLL CHAMPS - Had the "SLL Player of Year", Had 4 of the 7 First Team Players, 1 2nd Team Player and Parents, Players, Fans, & Others are NOT HAPPY? It Appears SOME FORGOT: THERE IS NO "I" IN TEAM! WHAT A GREAT SEASON! TREMENDOUS FEAT TO HAVE 4 PLAYERS HONORED AS 1ST TEAM ALL-LEAGUE & 1 PLAYER 2ND TEAM SELECTIONS. Now some of you get on a COMMENT Page that should ONLY contain ACCOLADES for the OTSEGO TEAM MEMBER who was Selected SLL Player of the Year & the ALL-LEAGUE SELECTIONS and Whine that the SLL COACHES Got it Wrong? Did you think that ALL 7 1st Team Players should be from Otsego? Surley NOT! Have we Forgotten that High School Volleyball is a GAME Played by YOUNG LADIES AND IS JUST 1 VERY SMALL EVENT IN THESE YOUNG LIVES? COME ON: REJOICE IN THE SUCCESS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THIS GROUP OF YOUNG LADIES AND MOVE ON! AMAZED!
Otsego's Berry named SLL player of the year as I see it 2009-11-15 19:09:53 are the first to post that the SLL COACHES got it wrong. No one is saying that. That hasn't been mentioned and IS NOT the problem. Go back, read the original article - why were players from Otsego awarded for positions they did not play during SLL games? The nominations came from each team's coach. What's the explanation COACH JONES?

It still goes back to the Coach of Otsego, She nominated players on the Otsego Volleyball team that Didn't play the spot they really played. She took away from Other SLL players for a chance to get 1st Team and Second team. If you have played any sporting events in school you always remember that though your whole life. Yes we need to move and need a new program and coach!

To the Editor: Latta should work in bipartisan way brutus 2009-11-17 09:44:53 As usual useyourhead, your posts are nothing but to cause fear and distrust of the Gov. Never anything productive.
Perrysburg Kroger site closer to checkout Mike Miller 2009-11-17 09:55:44 I'll never visit this store. What a joke. Perrysburg already has enough stores, including the overpriced Levis Commons. Now they're adding this. Pretty soon the "country" life won't exist between Perrysburg and Bowling Green ... all for the sake of new subdivisions and unfilled mall outlet stores (just like the HarborTown place that has been unfilled for quite a while). I hear those stores are not doing well either.
To the Editor: Latta should work in bipartisan way useyourhead 2009-11-17 10:04:09 The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force is a Government-appointed expert panel that worked from 1984 to 1989 to develop recommendations for primary care clinicians on the appropriate content of periodic health examinations. In July 1990, the Task Force was reconstituted by the Department of Health and Human Services to continue and update these scientific assessments of preventive services. "Its recommendations are considered the "gold standard" for clinical preventive services." Do you think the govt. goes by their recommendations?? Are you watching the news? Has government written all over it. I can't believe you don't see that. Talk about only seeing what you want to see.
Perrysburg Kroger site closer to checkout user 2009-11-17 10:32:44 This is a terrible idea. In addition to destroying needed green space and farm land, killing the close-knit Perrysburg Heights community, and increasing traffic and congestion, Kroger will just wind up competing with itself in this location, driving down the profits of its two other stores located within 10 miles of this location. Greedy and dumb.
Perrysburg Kroger site closer to checkout David 2009-11-17 10:48:28 I thought Perrysburg residents spoke up and said they were tired of the growth??? Now, more growth??? When will this end? Already a dead Kmart store sits just miles away. Despite already one Kroger in Perrysburg, but the Kroger in BG is only 8 minutes away from that newly proposed location. I just don't understand city planners for allowing this. Ahhhhhh, that's right, for the almighty dollar! This Kroger will not be visited by me. Many are planning the same boycott.
To the Editor: Latta should work in bipartisan way brutus 2009-11-17 10:50:00 It is pretty sad you have to cut things out in your posts to try to make your point. you are a real piece of ........ work.
To the Editor: Latta should work in bipartisan way useyourhead 2009-11-17 11:12:12 Living life with blinders on and avoiding the truth, talk about a real piece of work. You are actually defending something that can hurt "the people". The only people supporting their recommendation is them. Well, and you.
To the Editor: Latta should work in bipartisan way brutus 2009-11-17 11:20:24 Well Doctor useyourhead, when did you become an expert in this field? And the only reason you brought it up here was to defame the public option, not because you actually cared about anyone or anything. The only thing you care about it might cost you a few pennys more a year.
To the Editor: Latta should work in bipartisan way useyourhead 2009-11-17 12:22:04 You make it too easy brutus. It doesn't take an expert to understand that early detection saves lives. Use a little common sense. Turn on the news and witness all the opposition. As far as the public option costing me "a few pennys more a year". If that's what you think it will cost, you are an idiot. I would love for you to come out and tell every woman out there that self breast examination is meaningless. You are defending The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force's recommendation, so obviously you agree with them.
To the Editor: Latta should work in bipartisan way Manson48 2009-11-17 13:41:08 Two things, 1.The right-wingers cry handout, complaining that the healthcare package is guided toward those people that do not work. *Newsflash, for these uneducated corporate imperialists, those Americans, who do not work, already have access to absolutely free healthcare through Job and Family services. It is those folks who work, and make a liitle too much for any and all government assistance, that are caught in the path of a runaway healthcare system. 2. Obviously the government is not without its red tape and nonsensical bureaucracy. However, the insurance companies are just plain insane. The pharmacies have to charge double or triple for prescriptions because the insurance companies only pay a portion of the retail price for these prescriptions. These idiots can not even agree on a fair price. So the pharmacy is forced to pad an invoice, while the insurance companies promises to pay only a percentage of the actual cost. Both participants, lost in this crazed sysytem of criminal design, are so afraid of getting screwed by the other, that they convolute the entire system. It's completely insane, and only because we are dealing with a criminal mindset. Now show me how the government could possibly screw things up this insanely. JM

BGSU digs in to dorm, dining plan concernedalumnus 2009-11-17 17:04:04 The administration knew that the two fraternity houses were going to have to be demolished over the summer. Why did they wait until this week to let the students know. Now the students are expected to have to move not only all of their personal belongings out of the house, but all of the chapter's possessions, dating back 60 years in the case of Phi Kappa Tau. There are only about 16 days of school left this semester, if you subtract finals and Thanksgiving break. And they make it seem like their are alternative housing arrangements provided for the students. That is not entirely true. Nothing concrete was presented to the students and roommates will have to be split up and people who have been living together will be spread all over campus. Upper class students who made the sacrfice to pay more money to live on-campus are not being allowed out of their contact. It's typical University. Wait to the last minute to make a decision that is not well thought out and ignore the welfare of the students. And further, were any alumni notified of this outside of the Chapter Advisor. Fraternity houses are not dorms...alumni have a connection to them. This is one alumnus who will not give a penny to the new Greek village and I'm guessing there are a lot more just like me after this fiasco.

IF you feel the need to write a letter to the editor with your opinions or feel that your opinions are facts that BACK THEM UP! It doesn't take much longer to cite a source or website that you got your facts from. You say not to listen to what any of the news organizations are feeding us on the nightly news.....Where do you go for your "news"? They are feeding you just as much crap! To the Editor: Politicians should go back to honoring the Constitution Marlene 2009-11-18 12:50:45 Deb -- I wouldn't go blaming progressives for the country's woes! There hasn't been a real progressive in Congress since Paul Wellstone, and the last progressive in the White House was FDR! The country and Congress has been largely in the Republicans' hands since Reagan. It was Reagan who gave tax incentives for companies to bust unions and move to Mexico. It was Reagan who drove the deficit to new lows. It was Reagan who was in charge when 250-some Marines were killed in a terrorist attack. Daddy Bush was no better, continuing the voodoo economics he once attacked. Shrub was a complete moron who had no business running for dog catcher, let alone president. A Republican has no business being in charge of the budget process, because they only care about running up profits for their friends, while the masses suffer.
To the Editor: Politicians should go back to honoring the Constitution brutus 2009-11-18 13:26:54 Very good responses Tired and Marlene. Deb how far do you want to go back? Give some specifics and cite the violations of the Constitution. People like yourself always talk about founding principles and I always asked do you mean slavery? Very limited women's rights? Blacks being only 3//5 of a person? Nice cliche but no substance.
To the Editor: Politicians should go back to honoring the Constitution Lane 2009-11-18 13:59:02 Ms. Marsh, I agree with you. People should know what our Constitution says. Unfortunately, and let me put this as painlessly as possible, you are not one of them. The quote you opened your letter with is from the Declaration of Independance. Thus ends the lesson.
Rossford man indicted on two counts of murder Sarah 2009-11-18 19:01:46 Omg. I went to the same high school as this kid and my younger brother knew him better than I did. My grandparents live in Perrysburg Estates and if that happened to one of my grandparents I don't know what I would do. I don't know how I feel about a teenager getting life in prison but he definitely needs to be punished because my brother said he was always a trouble maker so he obviously hasn't learned yet.
To the Editor: Politicians should go back to honoring the Constitution Gemeral Custar 2009-11-18 22:25:17 Not sure why you people got so riled at this letter. All she is saying is try to get a little first hand knowledge about what is going on. Knowledge is a good thing. For instance the reason black men were counted as only 3/5 was to keep the southern states from reaching a majority in congress which in turn would have kept slavery alive for years to come. No where in her letter does she state or even imply that her quote came from the constitution, she merely stated that most people don't have a clue about american history. Wether or not you agree with someone or not their point carries more weight if they are waging an intelligent argument.

To the Editor: Politicians should go back to honoring the Constitution Deb Marsh 2009-11-19 05:18:34 Sorry to everyone who posted comments and did not get the actual point of what I was trying to say. You only get to write 500 words, so I was trying to get people to understand we must get ourselves educated and stop letting everyone else feed us junk that is not the truth. Trust me when I say I have no favorites in any politicians. I believe they are only out for creating wealth for themselves, and not for doing what is right for us. I could not stand Bush as I feel he has done more to damage the dollar and the economy than any other politician we have ever had. I also know that my opening statement was written by Thomas Jefferson and was not in the Constitution. It was only to show people why we broke the chains with Britain and fought to become our own country. Which is what we need to do now. We have already broken the chains of women's sufferage, and slavery, and we are at least attempting to keep those two issues going towards complete freedom for everyone, so why not carry those efforts over into other aspects of our lives? Thank you Lane, because all I really want is for us not to blindly follow other peoples paths. Educate yourself, and make decisions for you and your families that are based on sound judgement, not some opinion poll.
To the Editor: Politicians should go back to honoring the Constitution brutus 2009-11-19 05:47:24 Deb, when you write something like this "Not the indoctrinating garbage the progressives are teaching our children in school today, but the truth" you say you have no favorites? My father went to High School in that building, graduating in 1943 and heading off to WWII. I attended Junior High there in the mid-'70s. I remember arriving there from South Main School as a 7th Grader, awed by the size and number of people. Leaving after 9th grade was complete, it seemed much smaller and compact. Age and familiarity will do that, I guess. I sure do hate to see it go, but that is progress, I guess.

To the Editor: Politicians should go back to honoring the Constitution gargie 2009-11-20 04:54:20 “Who’s truth” Jefferson’s admonition was based in the truth that was and is proven by thousands of years of history. The documents we live by were based on thousands of years of history, “The truth” can be proven there and therefore isn’t up to a personal interpretation, it’s the truth. Knowing why Jefferson said what he did can give specific reasons to carry out his words. Never do I hear those details mentioned. The fact that so many do not know them, are not engaged in learning them and have no desire to is one of the greatest sins of this nation and bound to bring about it’s end. Jefferson’s views were based on what he’d learned, what was it? I can tell you what it wasn’t, it wasn’t all the crap floating around in the slim that makes up the bulk of entertainment. That kind of education only produces a people that say things like “Who’s truth, yours or mine.” Produces a people that have a problem with one citizen encouraging others to get educated historically like Deb marsh is. When one person abuses another government is born, it grows in proportion to the growth of abuse and replacing one form with another is just proof positive we’re just a bunch of jerks and like it that way. Our current government is just doing what it’s nature is, it’s not meant to be the solution and supposed to be a peoples last resource in resolving an abuse, a poor choice at that. Kind of like amputation to save the body, keep abusing the body and eventually you end up with not enough parts to live. About where we are right now and all it would take is for the abuse to stop. We can’t and won’t do that because the love of money is too great and leads to all sorts of evil and is the reason why prosperity is so hard to live with.
To the Editor: Politicians should go back to honoring the Constitution brutus 2009-11-20 06:40:09 Deb and Gargie (aka teabaggers) why do you feel like you are the "educated ones"? People have a different interpetation of things than you. Why do you think we have a Supreme Court and a court system in general? This fantasy about going back to the beginning is ludicrous. We have had 27 Amendments to the Constitution since then. We want to move forward not backward. Oh one more thing, if you were truly concerned about the founding principles and The Constitution you would be calling for the repeal of the Patriot Act, the single most egregious attack on our Constitution.

To the Editor: Politicians should go back to honoring the Constitution Educated One 2009-11-21 21:37:14 Actually, everyone: if you REALLY studied history you should be ASHAMED to call yourself American! The indigenous genocide alone is enough to do that for me. The United States was founded on the principle of unfettered exploitation and NOTHING ELSE. The rest is merely fluffy syntax to appease the masses. The desire to "go back to our roots" is NOT for me, thank you very much! Not to mention the Japanese internment camps, Hiroshima & Nagasaki, Haiti, Vietnam atrocities, etc, etc. America WILL fail. Socialism failed, Capitalism will too. You people will argue between two dead polarities along an obsolete 2-dimensional paradigm, and you will fail to win any converts. *Yawn* How typically "American". I, for one do not use that epithet to describe myself. It is shameful.

Portage patrolling pulled over Tom Butters 2009-11-24 09:14:55 Maybe one of the reasons the town ran out of money was for poor leadership. If you attended a previous "Mayors Court" session, you would of noticed 4 or 5 police officers present. So you pay you officers, prosecutor, clerk, and Majistrate. Sounds expensive doesn't it, but the Chief or Mayor didn't stop it. The latest brain storm is the town wants to have an auxiliary department. So the police officers wont be paid to get out there and write those BS tickets. The problem is the village will need to pay for the gas, workers comp., auto insurance, vehicle repairs (tires, oil changes, etc.). Sounds like a great idea doesn't it? Thats why the town and its Chief need to be shut down.
