To the Editor: It's time for Obama & Congress to stop blaming Bush Kettle 2009-07-15 18:01:11 Hello Pot, Let's not forget which administration gave out the first bailout to AIG. Oh yes, that was your beloved Bush. I'm glad to see the war in Iraq or any of the other spendthrift proposals by Bush (remember the "stimulus checks"?) has done nothing to increase our "astronomical debt". I'd far rather see money spent on health care than chasing down non-existent WMDs in Iraq. Have we found those yet by the way? Let me check the internet ... nope.
To the Editor: Temporary taxes become permanent John 2009-07-15 18:17:57 Perrysburg has an income tax rate of 1.50%. Bowling Green currently has a tax rate of 1.92% and wants to raise it 2.00%. Somehow I don't see this potential increase in income taxes helping to draw in new business or residents versus Perrysburg. I love how the politicians in this town always say we have to make tough choices by raising taxes instead of making tough choices in cutting back on non-essential services or bringing in new business. Lord knows we wouldn't want to provide Time Warner any competition by bringing in another cable company that would employee additional people, generate additional tax revenues, and lower cable television rates in this town.

Woodland Mall plans to work through foreclosure case Lavonna 2009-07-16 10:40:35 Its unfortunate that the negativity is so great over a place that offers several perks to family and kids. The cinema alone keeps the children busy rather than having them run the streets. Its sad that everyone has lost the compassion for something that has been around for so long.
Woodland Mall plans to work through foreclosure case Bgmom 2009-07-16 10:45:14 Yes you are right. This mall not only is the livelyhood of some families but it is a place that you can feel safe to allow your children to hang out. The dance studio offers a large amount of foot traffic along with the Cinema. So what if there isn't a huge amount of stores. You go to WalMart and its just one store. So what if there is just one thing at the mall that keeps you going, its still a place to go and it has helped with several events with the community as far as health fairs, holiday enjoyment for families, ect. You take the mall away and you hurt so many families just that have work in areas. What happens to the employees. Where is the compassion.?
To the Editor: It's time for Obama & Congress to stop blaming Bush AJ Dukes 2009-07-16 11:59:02 Mr. Kettle, Did you take US Government 101 in High School? You must have missed that semester. If you had, you would be able to recall that ONLY Congress spends money. Oh by the way, Congress now has been in control by "tax and spend" Democrats for how many years now? Put your name on your comments if you're a man! Maybe you didn't pen your name out of fear that everyone would know how ignorant you really are! You go check the internet to see who spends money in the goverment know...that little thing that Al Gore invented! -AJ Dukes- Pembroke Pines, Fl

Woodland Mall plans to work through foreclosure case RIP Woodland Mall 2009-07-16 14:04:10 this mall is an absolute joke....the movie theater is the only thing worth while so just tear down around it and keep giving money to Toledo since you dont seem to want to keep it current and worth while. I mean lets be serious one of the biggest stores in the mall is a mattress store.....pathetic.

Ohio firefighter who killed dogs loses job downthePike 2009-07-16 15:47:05 Anyone who would tie his dogs to a pipe and shoot them has some pretty serious mental problems and has no place being involved with public safety. It is obvious that he has a problem with good judgment and in a fire or any other emergency situation, a person would have to be able to exercise good judgment. His personal reasons for shooting and killing his dogs is still part of who he is, how he thinks, and how he reacts. If he didn't want them, he could have surrendered them to the Humane Society or some other organization.
Ohio firefighter who killed dogs loses job sivicman 2009-07-16 16:09:27 Someone needs to tie him to pipe and shoot him. 90 days in jail is not good enough.
Public can check out motor coach convention for $7 or $55 per day Marlene 2009-07-17 10:18:17 In these days of $2.25/gal for gas and much more for diesel, it's sad to see all this example of wretched excess. It's nice to see the group trying to help out the BG Food Bank, but how about selling these fuel wasters and road hogs for scrap and giving the proceeds to the Food Bank? The environment and the biosphere will thank you!
Woodland Mall plans to work through foreclosure case In the know 2009-07-17 12:12:53 The Woodland Mall was never wanted by the downtown businesses, their friends and their families. They refuse to support it and discourage others from shopping there. Likewise the DBA (Downtown Business Association)fought vigorously to keep Meijer, and Walmart out of Bowling Green. They would rather stay in horse and buggy days without competition. Now I must say that I am no fan of Chinatown, I mean Walmart, but the lack of parking, etc will keep the DBA in check. Without local support the Woodland Mall cannot survive and the lack of local support WILL NOT CHANGE. Like what Loriann stated above "the mall is dead, bury it". R.I.P.
Woodland Mall plans to work through foreclosure case kb 2009-07-17 13:05:28 Convenient public transportation from the north end to the south end could be beneficial to the entire community -- the equivalent of a "people mover" in large malls. A viable trolley system would make sense for a town our size.

To the Editor: Temporary taxes become permanent manson48 2009-07-17 21:34:18 It would seem that some have memory problems here. Of course this is Obama's fault, how could Bush have possibly messed anything up in just eight years. Be real people, Obama has nearly eight months in office, which republicans all know is far more time than eight years.
Maine town fights phase-out of curbside mailbox downthePike 2009-07-17 23:28:46 You would think that some kind of concession could and would be made for people living 35 miles from a post office! I live out in the middle of Utah where I drive 10 miles one way to the post office to be able to pick up my mail or mail off anything. Everyone out here has a post office box because there is no house-to-house delivery, but I can't imagine not even being able to send off a letter without driving 35 miles one way! I hope the people of Otisfield get to keep their blue box.
Woodland Mall plans to work through foreclosure case DenisE 2009-07-18 11:09:57 The Woodland Mall like many other Malls across american and Ohio including Southwyck and The Salem Mall in Dayton, Ohio have to evolve or die....Elder Beerman and Dunham are wonderful anchor stores for the Woodland Mall modern and more eye pleasing shopping centers like Fallen Timbers, the strip Mall across from Wal-Mart in Bowling Green make traditonal mall less welcoming to shop at...The movement of the Dollar Tree. Turning Point and the confindment of Crafters to one area along with just plain general unfriendlyness to certain vendors but less also include the economy have fostered an image of the Mall owners as single sighted and hostile to select buying groups....Least we not talk about the good things the Mall does for this community including all those wonderful years at Christmas time for all of the parents who can recall seeing thier young ones on center stage there. or Halloween when they provide our young children with a safe and free place to get treats .or Easter etc.. Hind Sight is 20/20 maybe we don't want to look to closely in the future and see the Mall as a RIP SPOT.

Woman sentenced for embezzlement JimBob 2009-07-18 21:42:09 This is typical and it isn't a black or white thang. White collar crime gets a slap on the wrist. $129,000 ???!!! yet walk into a bank, hand the teller a note and get a few thousand and that criminal gets sentence double what they would get for murder. As for a chance of recidivism??? VERY HIGH. SHE IS OBVIOUSLY AMORAL UNETHICAL DISHONEST SCUM and is very likely yo re-offend. Her only lesson learned will be to be more careful and not get caught next time
Former Otsego QB shot, dies after robbery JimBob 2009-07-18 21:46:13 WTF??? PRAYERS FOR HIM AND HIS FAMILY??? He was VIOLENT CRIMINAL SCUM. He got exactly what he deserved. It's just lucky and GOOD that the decent hard-working store owner got a shot off first before getting murdered. As we have seen time and time again in Toledo, cooperating with violent black criminals means nothing. They love to shoot the victim after the money is handed over. BP clerk, Wendy's manager, Pacific Crab house, multiple carry-outs, ALL were robbed by blacks and then the victims were EXECUTED in cold blood. ITS ABOUT TIME THAT THE FILTHY CRIMINAL LEFT IN THE BODY BAG
Former Otsego QB shot, dies after robbery AA 2009-07-20 07:04:45 I pray God will forgive you, your racism and small mind- Arron was shot 4 times from behind and did not have a weapon - he did not deserve to die.
To the Editor: We already wait for our health care Robert Densic 2009-07-20 11:35:00 Just show me where in the US Constitution it allows the Federal Government to take over health care. If you think healthcare is expensive now, just wait until it is "free".
Ex-NFL star Vick released from federal custody downthePike 2009-07-20 13:36:34 I believe people can be forgiven, but dog-fighting is such a low and heinous thing that I wonder about Vick and his future. I am amazed that he was allowed to work with the Boys and Girls Club. I certainly wouldn't want him around my children for any reason. It wasn't as if he NEEDED to fight dogs to earn money, since as a professional football player he made plenty of money. He has shown a very disturbed and dangerous part of his personality to do such a thing and I hope he will be watched very carefully in the future.
To the Editor: We already wait for our health care Michelle Sterling 2009-07-20 14:18:02 That is FAR from the waiting everyone is talking about. Waiting means, From the time your told you have cancer, untill the next time you can see a specialist- THAT waiting can be up to 6 months.
Former Otsego QB shot, dies after robbery Baffled in Barberton 2009-07-20 20:31:01 Does Otsego feel no remorse at all when one of its native sons preys upon other Ohio communities?
Tracy Crouch Marlene Rath 2009-07-20 21:43:05 My deepest sympathy to all the family and friends. I did not know Tracy but April & Kevin Meeker are my daughter and son-in-law and so I had heard about the struggles he had been going through but that he was getting back on track. My thoughts and especially prayers are with you.
Woman sentenced for embezzlement Watchout 2009-07-21 07:00:36 Now someone needs to check out Mr. Rankis at Insight. Winterfest money was stolen as well as he kept $2,500 in auction items. Hmmmm.
BG to wait to decide on layoffs Notsomuch 2009-07-21 10:30:25 The truth is the fire levy would be fine if they had kept the fire funding from the general levy the same, but the fire department has become a shrinking part of the general fund. The actual percentage of the general fund that the FD receives has gone down over recent years. This does not change the fact that there is a shortfall in the city budget, but lets try not to blame one department the city thinks may get support.
Man was found guilty of inducing panic BGGirl 2009-07-21 11:21:43 I think your article regarding Tracy Crouch was in very poor taste and disrepectful! Shame on the Sentinel-Tribune for the article. Did you ever consider what his family is going through?
Stimulus $ to aid schools - but only for 2 years rdensic 2009-07-21 11:35:19 Leave it to politicians to so thoroughly screw up public education funding. How about this... the state decide what a basic education should include, then fund it on a per pupil per year basis. Local districts will decide what above and beyond basic education they would like to offer and they fund those costs out of local revenue. (Property or income tax.) This way the states funding lawsuit goes away - everyone is funded equally for the state required education, and the citizens have a say in how many "extras" they would like to provide. Get the Feds out of it completely. The last time I checked the Constitution (this morning) there is nothing in there about providing for education. Therefor, by the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, it is a right/responsibility of the states and the people.
Public can check out motor coach convention for $7 or $55 per day Samantha 2009-07-21 14:20:42 Because we are born with a little thing called free will; if they choose to spend their hard-earned money on a "road hog" of an RV and travel the be it. I can't wait until the day I retire and am able to do the same thing. Kudos to them for helping with the Food Bank!
Man was found guilty of inducing panic hckymom 2009-07-21 15:07:34 I didn't know Tracy Crouch, but I do know that he was a son and a father. The article is in poor taste--disappointing.
Former Otsego QB shot, dies after robbery AA 2009-07-21 16:04:51 Does your community feel any remorse when one of your native sons shoots someone who is unarmed, four times from behind, when he is running away? That is not self-defense, that is excessive force at the least, but it is more like vigilante, wild west, and uncivilized behavior. I am not defending Arron, but he did not deserve death over what amounted to nothing more than shoplifting. I will pray for you also.
Man was found guilty of inducing panic kjgraha 2009-07-21 16:19:19 I think it's a real shame that the Sentinel is so desperate for news that they couldn't even give the family of Mr Crouch time to grieve before printing this article. This is shameful and completely disrespectful. The family and friends of Tracy are going through enough right now with out having this thrown at them. Get a concience and show some empathy. I think the Sentinel Tribune owes these people a HUGE apology
Man was found guilty of inducing panic ss70 2009-07-21 17:08:11 very poor taste, how could you print this article on the same day as his obituarie? Give the family and friends time to grieve. He went to court on July 6th and it took you this long to print his charges you could have had the heart and printed it next weeks paper shame on you all heartless soles.
To the Editor: It's time for Obama & Congress to stop blaming Bush brutus 2009-07-21 18:43:47 Well AJ did you take Gov 101? If you did you would know that Bush-Cheney raised the National Debt from a little over 5 trillion inn 2000 to over 10 1/2 trillion by Sept. of 2008. And guess who had the other biggest jump in the National debt? If you said St. Ronnie and Bush 1 you would be correct. It went from a little over 1 trillion in 1980 to a little over 4 trillion in 1992. Maybe you need a math class instead.
To the Editor: We already wait for our health care brutus 2009-07-21 18:58:31 You are absolutely right Reid. Mr. Densic we pay twice as much per person than any other industrialized country and still have 100 million people either with no insurance or inadequate insurance that is 2300 dollar deductables. Watch the movie Sicko Michelle and Robert. Michael Moore actually went to the countries that have government insurance unlike your buddies Glen Beck and Sean Insanity. Oh by the way the country voted for this kind of change last November and you guys lost. Ha! Ha! Suck it up children.
Stimulus $ to aid schools - but only for 2 years brutus 2009-07-21 19:16:13 You need to catch up on the Constitution rdensic. It says things that are for the good of the people. Education is thought of by the majority in this country to be for the GOOD OF THE PEOPLE. Once again you are in the minority. I am beginning to think you don't like our country and it's Constitution.
Former Otsego QB shot, dies after robbery BB 2009-07-21 19:22:33 Whether deserved or not, death is a foreseeable result when one threatens to use deadly force themselves. Are you suggesting that Arron Agler did nothing more than flash his dazzling smile and ask for a six pack to go? All the news and police reports thus far suggest otherwise, but no doubt you are privy to better information. In any event, anyone who truly considers robbery to be "nothing more than shoplifting" should pray for a restoration of their own moral compass.

Five Point Threshers return on Sunday Tim Myers 2009-07-22 00:38:30 A LARGE TIME was had by all!
Former Otsego QB shot, dies after robbery aa 2009-07-22 05:33:51 You are right, I am privy to better information than you or the press. My moral compass tells me I don't empty a gun on someone unarmed, running away from me. The owner of that carry out is a ticking time bomb waiting for the next one who "looked" like they had a weapon and felt "threatening" to him. I assume it is ok to you for a store owner to shoot the 12 year old who stole a candy bar? Please check out the shooters My Space page and tell me how a 22year old owns a carry out, 3 cars and enough gold jewelry to make a boat anchor?
Portage puts police chief back at 40 hours Kevin Puffer 2009-07-22 06:57:51 I'm completely uninvolved with the local politics in Portage, I don't live there or even visit very often. When I read this article, several things jump out at me. Maybe I have a "sixth sense" for things that don't add up too. The article begins with the statement councilwoman Wolford says "police brought in $6,600 in revenue in May, compared to $602 in June. That was the month council, with a 3-2 vote, cut Police Chief Bob Bartz’s weekly hours from 40 to 20." as if cutting the officers hours was the cause for the lack of revenue. Later in the article it says "the mayor said the village has lost three officers in six weeks and another is going on an extended leave.". Wouldn't that also contribute to the lack of revenue. Councilwoman Wolford, who I believe is the Mayors wife, also states the department lost over $33k. What ever "sixth sense for numbers" The Mayor's thinks he has doesn't seem to be working very well from my uninvolved vantage point.

Man was found guilty of inducing panic AFriend 2009-07-22 10:44:00 I am a friend and co-worker of Tracy's sister and her heart is broken. She has lost a brother very tragically and to read this article the same day as his obituary has added to her and the family's sorrow. Please remember that Tracy has left a loving family and they deserve the respect to grieve the loss of their loved one in private. The timing of this article is very inappropriate.

Stimulus $ to aid schools - but only for 2 years rdensic 2009-07-22 11:21:54 "..provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves.." So brutus your position is if it is for the good of the people it is to be provided? Food is good. Housing is good. A job is good (for those who like to earn their pay.) Does the Constitution provide the right to those items? Never confuse needs with rights. You do not have a right to something that is provided by someone else with the only direct exception of a jury trial. The US Constitution does not speak to education therefor it is not a duty of the federal government. Ohio's constitution does therefor this debate should happen at the state and local level. By the way, I love my country and our constitution. I just disagree with those who wish to ignore the direct language or the latter. If you can show me where education is provided for in the US Constitution, we can have a discussion on how it should be done. Simply because people education is "thought of" to ge good does not make it a federal duty. We are a nation of laws not thoughts. Of course, some are trying to make certain thoughts illegal.

Portage rallies round its light montanatwig 2009-07-22 12:15:24 While I sympathize with Portage residents, there are other areas that have the same concerns. Children in Custar must walk across SR 281 to get on the bus and there is no traffic light there. As far as using the intersection for Enright Park, I don't see how that could be an issue since the park is well to the south of the intersection. I believe in safety but don't think the traffic warrants a traffic device.
DeWine announces bid for Ohio attorney general brutus 2009-07-22 12:58:52 Non-partisan isn't even in your vocabuary Mike. Are you forgetting how you were in the Senate? We sure don't. You were one of the Bushbots in the Senate. Oh and did you forget how you acted in the Senate race?

To the Editor: We need solutions, not the status quo brutus 2009-07-22 13:13:45 I could not have said it better myself Mike. It is good to see other people expressing their opinion. As for the "teabaggers" what a bunch of phonies. Where were you the last 8 years? As a matter of fact where were you the last 30 years when the destruction of the middle class was taking place? We voted for change last November and our man Barack is going to do it. Sit back and watch and quit your crying.
Man was found guilty of inducing panic bgman 2009-07-22 13:19:10 very very unprofessional and no common courtesy and respect shown whatsoever. it sure would have been nice if this would have been shown to the family and friends during this very sad time for them but it obviously was not. how would any one of you have felt if the shoe was on the other foot? my condolences go out to the family.
BG to wait to decide on layoffs concernedcitizen 2009-07-22 13:53:58 I read somewhere that the city has approximately 50 full time fireman with average salaries of over 65k per year. That seems like a lot of full time fireman for a city of our size. Comparable cities have much smaller full time fire departments, choosing instead to rely on paid part-time personnel. That cost alone would save the city millions in the budget every year.

BG to wait to decide on layoffs bgresident 2009-07-22 15:16:38 It is my understanding that it is the fire chief's job to handle the budget of the fire department. If he can't keep his spending within budget then maybe this city needs to look at a replacement. We need to start having some accountability in this city and it starts at the top! The reason for the high salary is overtime so it looks like they need to remedy that situation like every other division in this city. I also think it is just great that the mayor wants to delay letting his personnel about layoffs. Nothing like keeping your people left in the dark!
BG to wait to decide on layoffs sick & tired 2009-07-22 15:18:09 With that many full time firemen, you'd think their overtime budget would be minimal but that's not the case. How many times over the last few years has the BGFD gone back to City Council for reallocation of funds to cover the excessive & abusive overtime payouts they're receiving. How many fireman, annually, make over $10,000.00 in overtime? Do the fire runs really necessitate that much manpower? BG does not need a temporary tax increase, it needs a permanent solution to the theft being committed by the BGFD.
Woodland Mall plans to work through foreclosure case bgresident 2009-07-22 15:28:44 I have an idea...why don't we get rid of the DBA!? I mean they are the ones who keep pushing all of the bigger business away from this city to keep that "small town feel." Forget that crap! Don't forget that this city pushed Cabella's away...has anyone been to Dundee lately and see how it is booming? The powers at be in this city are idiots and should be ashamed of themselves. Now that they have pushed every viable business out of here they are looking at layoffs. Seriously, how many bars do we need downtown? And they think that is a small town feel? You must be out of your mind, it looks more like Put-In-Bay to me!
To the Editor: BG council urged to ban discrimination bgres 2009-07-22 15:32:35 You have obviously never been downtown on Tuesday nights. We do not need any more laws in this city.
To the Editor: BG landlord: Code enforcement does more harm than good bgres 2009-07-22 15:42:35 I absolutely agree with you! I have no rental properties in this city. I do not own an apartment complex or a business, but the bullying by certain individuals in this city has got to stop. Stupid laws like this run good people and investors out of the city. The code enforcement duo is a complete waste of money! Their starting salaries are totally absurd to just drive around and waste gas all day, or sit in their air conditioned office at City Park.
To the Editor: Proposed BG income tax hike called unfair bgres 2009-07-22 15:55:30 Let us not forget that if it was not for the university students BG would not be what it is today. The amount of tax revenue that is brought in during the school year far outweighs the revenue brought in over the boring summer in this town. Yes, I agree that the university needs to help with the cost of police in this city as most of their problems are due to the students (Read the blotter if you think otherwise) but the problem is not the students. It is the misappropriation of funds by the city administration and the fire department that have gotten us into this mess.
Portage rallies round its light Grubb Jones 2009-07-22 17:01:44 There is a difference between having enough reason to take a light down and having enough reasons to put one up. If there hadn't been one there since 1929, it would be hard to have enough evidence to put one up. There is enough reason to keep it. There are folks with disabilities required to cross that intersection, I work with these folks, and it takes them a long time to cross. Some barely make it while the light is green now. There are several obstructed views from the intersection directly to the North onto 25, in which someone will surely get creamed, and almost do already daily. I would guess this picture was taken on a Sunday morning, as there is quite a bit of traffic during rush hour. I live close to the light on Rt. 25. Sometimes it takes me quite a while to pull out of my driveway due to the traffic.

Hope Karma doesn,t get you
To the Editor: We need solutions, not the status quo Anonymous Resident 2009-07-23 05:17:25 The issue here and the mistake you both make is this. You see the government as the solution to all problems when in fact the government is the problem. Therefore it naturally appears we are against the government "doing". Some solutions can orginate from locations outside the beltway. Why is it I have long wondered people on the left hate big business and love and adore big government. ... I won't convince you and you won't me otherwise, just my 2 cents and without insults.
To the Editor: Rossford man doesn't like smell of pork Anonymous 2009-07-23 05:22:50 Hey Brutus, not a partisian attack or issue here. Having said that Marcy Kaptur... she wasn't sure how she felt about cap and trade, she couldn't find her thoughts, well not until she took $3.5 billion in pork. Well said Robert. Not so much brutus.
Man was found guilty of inducing panic cousin 2009-07-23 05:24:26 I feel you need to make an apology in this newspaper for posting such article on the same day as his obituary. I am a cousin to tracy and feel you have disrespected the family especially his immediate family. it is very low what you have done if that was your loved one would you want media like that printed. Sentinel Tribune has no respect!!!!!
To the Editor: We need solutions, not the status quo brutus 2009-07-23 06:49:28 Do you want to know why I and many others hate Big Business Anonymous? 40,000 factories closed and millions of jobs shipped overseas to low wage countries all for the sake of the mighty dollar. Companies shedding their pension responsibilities and turning them over to the Government (PBGC) and people only getting half of the promised amount while the execs who stole the money live high off the hog. So spare me your Gov is bad business is good montra. And if it were not for the Government I would not have any pension.
To the Editor: Rossford man doesn't like smell of pork brutus 2009-07-23 06:56:06 Oh I know when you people do a partisan attack such as this on Marcy, you are just "pointing it out to us". I know keeping our air and water clean is just pork to people like you. Why should you care about our children and grandchildren's future, you are living in the moment right?
Man was found guilty of inducing panic embarrassed 2009-07-23 07:03:28 This is an absolute crime that the Sentinel should sink this low. What were you thinking? Does no one review the articles you are printing before they go to press? This is not the first time that you have done this type of reporting, either. An apology to the family is in order. Shame on all of you.
Man was found guilty of inducing panic bgresident 2009-07-23 07:29:58 The obituary is a "paid advertisement" at this point. The family had the opportunity to advertise the person that they wanted to. The paper has the right to print the facts of a criminal case. Should the Sentinel check all paid advertisements to make certain there are no conflicts with the news? My sympathy to the family for their loss but the man chose his legacy.
To the Editor: BG landlord: Code enforcement does more harm than good cynthia 2009-07-23 07:49:21 Yeah, but you landlords make money off the backs of working people. Do you care about the renters you have? No. Don't play the sympathy card. You make plenty of money off of others. You want more renters in your buildings to make more money. Give me a break!
To the Editor: BG landlord: Code enforcement does more harm than good Sorry 2009-07-23 07:59:18 So you knowingly broke the law and how that you got caught you want someone to feel sorry for you! Give me a break- the code officers were doing the job they were hired to do and that is to enforce the occupancy law. If you don't like the law, work to get it changed. What should have happened is that none of your fine should have been suspended. You really sound remorseful!
To the Editor: BG landlord: Code enforcement does more harm than good bgresident 2009-07-23 08:36:29 Instead of whining you should be grateful. The court suspended $44,500, I guess you forgot to state that. So you are not going to vote on the tax increase. I am glad because the last I knew, you were not a BG resident which would be a crime and a violation of your probation. On the other hand.....we could use your $44,500 in the City. You could have chose to follow the law, not violate it. It shows that you lack integrity and honesty and you want us to feel sorry for you? Maybe you could have lowered the rent to where the three students could afford to live there, legally. But wait...that would require you to do the responsible and honest thing. Well, it sounded good. Easier to blame everyone else I guess.
BG resident records hole-in-one from both sides Deborah Fortney 2009-07-23 09:00:35 Wow, you made A.P. and practically every news outlet in the U.S.! Whatta Guy! I didn't know you were left-handed. I am too. We are the only two in the family!
To the Editor: Education: Then and now Hmmm 2009-07-23 09:33:10 More exageristic remarks from someone who could surely find cuts to make from his own backyard
Weston requests resident involvement kelleepullen 2009-07-23 09:57:14 Just a correction to the article- I did contact the village of Weston- for eight months with no response. I followed the correct course of action and now receive threatening phone calls from the Mayor- who is trying to bully me and a poor elderly couple (who, by the way are NOT my grandparents)until I drop the issue. I'm not sure I understand why the Mayor doesn't want the Village of Weston to be safe, or why he doesn't take Resident complaints seriously, but I can tell you that when it's time for reelection, I will make my voice heard.
To the Editor: Government health insurance not the answer brutus 2009-07-23 10:12:43 Mr. King you failed to mention the Iraq and Afgan wars now approaching 1 1/2 trillion dollars, the Bush tax cuts for the rich that cost the country $750 billion and Halliburton and on and on. Show me 1 retiree who is not grateful for that Social Security check. Show me 1 Vet that isn't happy that at least we have Vet hospitals. And show me 1 farmer who gave back his Gov welfare, I mean subsidy. Do you really think Mr. O'reilly, I mean Mr. King, that people really don't want to work? And do you trust, a for profit Health insurance company making medical decisions for you? And it sounds like socialism if you want to cap Doctors pay. Oh and by the way lawsuits account for less than a 1/2% towards medical costs. And if some doctor butchered your family member would you sue?
To the Editor: Presidents are elected to govern, not rule brutus 2009-07-23 10:26:24 A Mr. Lee you must have made a mistake. It was the Republicans from 2001 to 2008 that voted in lock step with Bush. Look at the voting record at and the house of Reps. You will also notice when you look at this many Democrats have voted against President Obama this year. But lets not let facts get in the way of right wing talking points. After all if Rush, Bill, Sean and Glen said it, it must be true right? We have been waiting 60 years for Healthcare change. I think that is long enough. Besides we voted for change with Barack last November, and guess what? WE WON!! So suck it up until 2012. We have had to suck it up the last 8 years.
Former Perysburg residents have been full-time on the road for last 8 years Bob Pooley 2009-07-23 11:12:30 Great picture and informative article.
To the Editor: Education: Then and now rdensic 2009-07-23 11:21:38 Our public school system has suffered for decades of what the military calls "Mission creep". Once education no longer became teaching the three R's, it devolved into a nanny state and our society went with it. (Although this may be a chicken or the egg issue... the deevolution of society may have created the nanny state of public schools.) Either way, a return to basics, not only in education but in politics, religion and politics is sorely needed.
Portage rallies round its light Phynix 2009-07-23 11:47:25 I drive through the intersection every day. Even though I would love to have the light removed and the speed increased I understand the problems with doing this. What really frustrates me is when it turns from green to red and I sit there with no one in site. I would like to see the light kept, the speed increased to a minimum of 35MPH and put the light on a trip only with the timing changed to a much shorter period. I know this is no real answer but it is an idea.
Harold Hoelter shelby2112 2009-07-23 11:47:45 This is very sad news and a great loss for the town of Luckey. That store brought friends and families together. Prayers be with your family. Shelly Booher
Portage rallies round its light Jim 2009-07-23 11:53:27 Hey lets fix a few problems at once. First take the light down thus solving one problem. Next sell the light to Lake Township. This will fix two pressing issues... the Lake Townships need for a light and raising money to keep the police chief at full time. This then leads to more time he can spend catching those speeders that will be going through Portage with no care in the world.
To the Editor: Canada's health care is lacking in rural areas brutus 2009-07-23 13:23:02 Don, What makes you think our rural areas are better than yours?
To the Editor: Presidents are elected to govern, not rule rdensic 2009-07-23 15:01:12 Who is "WE"? Did you vote for the man or the party? Do you stand by party or principles. A nation divided will surely fall. Lockstep with Bush? Really?!?! He is one in a long line of progressives who keep moving this country away from its founding principles.
To the Editor: Real health care reform needed rdensic 2009-07-23 15:15:03 Just show us where the US Constitution says the federal government has the duty (or right) to get into health care or insurance. Of the famed 45 million figure, 12 million are illegal aliens, 17 million can afford insurance but choose not to and anywhere from 5-8 million are between jobs. Want to fix the rising costs? Get government out. Look at the cost indexed to inflation since the creation of Medicare.
To the Editor: Central campus would serve all children equally theewings99 2009-07-23 16:00:33 Believe it or not, those are in opposition to the central campus are using our heads as well. There are those who have done their homework and found out we are not getting the whole truth when it comes to the expenses involved. We need to just look at what we have beeing paying for utilities at the new High School. I count my self as a proud graduate of Otsego, but as long as the current board of education continues not to listen to the majority, there will never be another levy passed in the future. Many of us take pride in our community school. It is a shame that it has been stolen from us. We want to best for our kids, but if we allow a reckless board to do what they want, our kids and their kids will pay for it in their wallet.
To the Editor: Presidents are elected to govern, not rule brutus 2009-07-23 16:09:07 Democrats won Robert get use to it. Obama won Robert get use to it, until at least 2012. Check the voting records before you speak about votes Robert. I know I know don't you just hate it when facts get in the way? Darn facts anyway. By the way do you think the nation was divided the last 8 years? Oh heck how about the last 40 years? Nixon, Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton and Bush 2 ring any bells?
Ft Meigs Fireworks July 3rd katie 2009-07-23 18:57:15 Very nice pictures! We sat across from Marcos Pizza in PB and had the sign in our view half of the time. These are prettier than what we got to see.
