To the Editor: Did Latta watch the same speech the rest of us did? brutus 2009-09-17 16:48:18 Gee the bill does not mention my dog either. Does that mean he is covered? And good lord we all pay for illegal immigrants now. Like I said in my earlier post employers change the terms of insurance yearly now. And like I said before repeal the Bush tax cuts. Problem solved. Please come up with some new ideas instead of the same old whiney stuff.
To the Editor: Did Latta watch the same speech the rest of us did? useyourhead 2009-09-17 16:56:50 Im sure if you had it your way, your dog would be covered. My employer doesn't change insurance yearly. But im sure you going to say they do because you know it all. These are not new ideas. These are the ideas coming from Obama. He said "If you misrepresent what's in this plan, we will call you out." Well, Im calling him out. Obama says we wont pay for illegal immigrants and you say we do. Are you saying Obama is lying ?
Portage moves toward dissolving police department tired of hearing about portage 2009-09-17 17:54:12 I did not grow up in Portage however I live here now and have no desire to see the village go away. I really could careless who is to blame or why all the financial issues have taken place. The long and short is that no one knows what they are doing! Appointed or elected you are all fools and the fact that you air the towns laundry all over the news media with your ignorant comments and horrid interviews is just proving how stupid you all are!
Portage moves toward dissolving police department oldham 2009-09-17 19:15:26 I REMEMBER BACK IN THE '60'S ME AMD MY BUDDIES PUSHED OVER A 2-HOLER ON HALLOWEEN. BOY, THOSE WERE THE DAY'S!!
To the Editor: Did Latta watch the same speech the rest of us did? AugustWest 2009-09-17 20:01:59 useyourhead.....who are your experts? and READ what brutus said..."We pay for illegal immigrants NOW". Citizen or Illegal immigrant without insurance or money we pay for it...come on...I enjoy you and brutus going back and forth but get real.
To the Editor: Did Latta watch the same speech the rest of us did? useyourhead 2009-09-17 20:36:04 I know we pay for illegal immigrants now. Obama says under the new plan, we wont. I dont think he is telling the truth. If I say he is a liar then im a racist. hahaha
Portage moves toward dissolving police department I love Portage! 2009-09-17 20:59:16 General Custar and Mark Foster....haha what a couple of jokes. DURRR
Portage moves toward dissolving police department General Custar 2009-09-17 23:32:58 Well you all seem to love Portage as long as you don't have to put your money where your mouth is. Portage, like all the other small towns will never be what it once was. Its a shame really because there was no place better to grow up than a small town. ODOT is involved because over the years Portage raped motorists going through town. At one time your police dept provided over 90% of the towns budget. People have long memories and no sympathy for a town with that history. You want to be a village? You want a police department? Then pay for it like the rest of us.
To the Editor: Who did judge, prosecutor protect? You Get a Clue 2009-09-18 07:01:45 As we can all see from the above my case was not the only one to be handled poorly (Mr. LaRoe, I agree, Me Too, Us Too). And yes you are a sad type. You are still hostile twords me and the others. Why? All we are saying is that we have not recieve proper support and you tell me to get a clue. Maybe you should be at home a have somebody do the things that he did to me and maybe just maybe you would get a clue
To the Editor: Don't bring dogs to arts fest bglover 2009-09-18 09:26:36 Your absolutly right I also saw a whole slew of tiny dogs being yanked around by people. all it would take is for one of those dogs to be stepped on and bye bye doggie.
To the Editor: Did Latta watch the same speech the rest of us did? brutus 2009-09-18 09:32:11 OK I wasn't going to respond to useyourhead but sometimes you just have to. He said nothing in his healthcare plan would cover illegal aliens. Your hero Ronnie Reagan took care of illegals in legislation he signed many moons ago. I really don't want to say this, I really don't, but you have severe comprenhension problems useyourhead. I don't see how you can work anywhere. When the boss tells you to do something do you understand what he is saying? And once again you bring nothing to the table.
To the Editor: Did Latta watch the same speech the rest of us did? useyourhead 2009-09-18 10:12:17 brutus, I think when you read something, somehow it gets distorted from what you read and how it gets interpreted in your brain. If you read comment #4, it says "Obama was CORRECT when he said his plan WOULDN'T insure illegal immigrants. If you get confused again when you read this let me know, I will put it picture form for you.
To the Editor: We need new approach to health care enough 2009-09-18 10:58:06 My reflection is just fine thank you. I find you must still be using you head for ramming against hard objects if you can't grasp based upon all your negative comments that no one would have anything positive to say about you or respect for you either. Seems you like to aim low,but and then whine when it comes back to you. Can't you actually discuss anything? What I have had enough of are people making hateful comments and then whining oh well how dare you say something mean to me. Boo, Hoo

Portage moves toward dissolving police department veryconcernedcitizen 2009-09-19 11:01:42 HopeMuse, I believe you've got it right. The state is only interested in itself, not helping municipalities. They would probably rather see small towns gone. And, yes, services cost money. When you have a need for an officer, how long are you willing to wait? Could be up to an hour for a deputy to arrive. I have seen the police at homes, helping the residents, not just only watching traffic and writing tickets. But at what price is your safety? If the council thinks eliminating the police is the solution, they should start looking elsewhere. What about the large amount of money spent for a lawnmower, phone system, and an overpriced truck with plow?? You get rid of the police, have higher speed limits, and I want to know when, not if, the first crash happens on SR25? Wait until the school kids try to cross the road going to their bus. Go ahead and dig your own grave, because that's what will happen in time to the village. Enough said.
Portage moves toward dissolving police department AugustWest 2009-09-19 11:15:50 Quit blaming the state for everything!! Obviously the Village of Portage was run incorrectly and now it needs to be corrected. There have been car accidents on SR25 and there will be more. Just like it was said before, everybody wants something but nobody wants to pay for it !
False concealed weapon permits cases continue lkf 2009-09-19 21:41:29 If these two people are found guilty, then the 138 people that falsely bought the permits should also be guilty of "receiving" unlawful permits. They had to know that the permits require schooling,so they were trying to bet the law. putting them on the street with a gun with knowing the laws and how to properly use it is very dangerous.
False concealed weapon permits cases continue useyourhead 2009-09-20 06:00:54 lkf, you are correct in your statements. As far as being dangerous, anyone can open carry in Ohio without a permit or a class.

Portage moves toward dissolving police department nice place to visit, but... 2009-09-20 13:24:41 Like oldham, I too grew up in Portage. I moved out of Portage in the late 70's. I returned to my beloved hometown about 17 years later only to see the town I loved so look like that that of blight and decay. Portage has taken on the appearance of a town that is dead. Years ago the town folk took pride in the their home and the town in which they lived. Nicely painted homes and attractive yards is what I recall. Nothing like the town I see now. Portage reminds me of a town with nothing but residential rentals and little pride. If the residents of Portage would spend more time on improving the town's appearance they would benefit from it. A nice looking town attracts others. Seems like the only colorful item in Portage is the stoplight which I understand is going to be removed. Portage should reflect on the past to improve it's future. The way the town looks now, it not going to attract a thing. What business or individual would really want to relocate to Portage in its current state? Current residents, show some pride . Inspire others to come into your town by connecting with your past, make the town attractive so others will want to live there. The money will soon follow. Internal self pride and respect come to those who earn it.
Portage moves toward dissolving police department Mark Foster 2009-09-21 04:22:42 When is the next council meeting? I'm going to attend so I can be there when the hammer finally drops on your lousy cops and crooked little speed trap. God is it going to be nice to drive through your dumpy little town on the way to work in the mornings and not have to stop at that useless light. See ya soon!
Portage moves toward dissolving police department Hey you 2009-09-21 08:38:30 The next council meeting in Portage is TONIGHT at 7:00pm. Come and join us Mark Foster :) ha.
To the Editor: Writer defends prosecutor, judge Why? 2009-09-21 08:47:24 Ms. Newlove lost her daughter in a very traumatic way and she deserves respect. Bitterness, ignorance and hatred doesn't change anything for the good, it only destroys. Knowledge, understanding and education is the path to change. The spoken and written word is a very powerful thing and should not be taken lightly. I pray that you will come to realize that victimizing someone else because you feel bad is not the way. I pray you will find peace in your situation but not at the cost of someone else. Blessings to you today.

Wood Lane homes celebrate 30 years Sandra 2009-09-21 20:00:50 God Bless the people who started and maintain the Portage Homes. My brother has been there for several years and the people there treat him more like a family member that a guest! They even took the time to bring him to our Family Reunion and stayed for quite a while so we could all get to see and talk to him. My brother was in an institution in Orient and was in Tiffin for awhile but you could tell he was not happy. He now laughs and plays around and is very happy! Again, God Bless You All and especially you, Melissa.

Portage moves toward dissolving police department Well then 2009-09-21 21:04:23 Well gee Mark Foster, too scard to show your face? Where were you at the meeting? You talk a pretty good talk....
Portage moves toward dissolving police department Mark Foster 2009-09-22 03:42:38 I was there you clowns, I wouldnt have missed that for nothin!
Portage moves toward dissolving police department concernedcitizen 2009-09-22 05:10:15 you say you were there you must have been afraid to show your true self. i heard no comments backing all the decisions so you must be a behind the door talker CHICKEN!
Portage moves toward dissolving police department Oh yeah 2009-09-22 07:04:44 Were you the one hiding in the back with brown curly hair next to Ron Sharpe? Didn't even say a word there. You are tiny and our numbered Mark Foster. Funny, I noticed a ring on your finger but i don't how a woman (or man) could put up with you....
Portage moves toward dissolving police department Mark Foster 2009-09-22 10:50:44 Say WHATEEEEVER you want, your light is gone and the fat lady is singin, it will be nice to drive through there at realistic speed, no traffic light, and none of your rent-a-cops pulling people over for BS excuses. I'm really going to miss setting at that red light staring at all the dumpy, dilapidated buildings you all are so proud of.
Portage moves toward dissolving police department HopeMuse 2009-09-22 11:16:08 The "realistic speed" may be a welcome change for those passing thru, but not to the families who live on State Route 25 or whose children have to cross State Route 25 at 6:45 am on dark, foggy mornings. I'm sure you would be concerned if your child was one of those who has to cross to get to the only school bus stop in town. We won't miss seeing you stop in the center of town, but we will see you in court if you hit one of our kids. What did Portage ever do to you, Mr. Foster, that you have so much anger? Perhaps a call to a therapist would be a better use of all the time on your hands, not venting online because you don't seem to have anything else to do.
Portage moves toward dissolving police department yea 2009-09-22 12:25:19 Ha my gosh Mark Foster you sound like a five year old. Getting all excited over little stuff you really need to get a life little Fella.

Portage moves toward dissolving police department a nice place to visit...but 2009-09-22 17:02:34 I think the Portage Cementary is the only thing in town with any character.... all the good folks are buried there. Give it a rest already...Some of you are beginning to degrade what very little character Portage has left. Regarding comment #15 The book shop in town was and still is the "Forget-Me-Not" Shop. Think about the name of the shop for a moment... Keep pride respect in the town.
To the Editor: Writer defends prosecutor, judge intend to act 2009-09-22 17:06:16 Why does Ms. Newlove deserve more respect than Past Victim? The prosecutor, as an elected official, should offer the same respect to ALL who need it. How condecending can you get without knowing the facts?
Portage moves toward dissolving police department a nice place to visit ...but... 2009-09-22 17:16:18 I've moved from Portage but whether there is or isn't a police force or traffic light people are people and they will either obey or disobey the law and all it implies. Before some of you writing comments on the subject were even born the light in town did not prevent the death of Marshall Hall and Marylou Bassett...remember them? They loved and cared about the town you speak of...allow them and this subject to rest in peace. What's done is done and what was shall never be.
To the Editor: Who did judge, prosecutor protect? K. Carpenter 2009-09-22 17:23:42 I can be reached at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it I had to think about this. If you or I or anyone else is worried about repercussions from an elected official, can we truly be living in the USA? Not the one I grew up in. Last Thursday was Constitution Day. Read at least the Preamble, as school children across the country did that day. Does it describe the way Wood County treats its citizens? I think not. Kathy Newlove's letter to the editor helps to prove our point. It is about who she is. Otherwise, why would she need to continue to use her maiden name? In Wood County, it's not about justice, it's about getting reelected. If we are to make a difference, being oppositional to the elected officials may not be the way to go. We need to try to work with them. (My assumption is that this will not happen as everyone I have contacted has chosen to ignore my requests to meet so far), and if that doesn't work, we need to work to get people registered to vote and make our case for the election of different public officials. Our focus has to be not about me or about you but about all of us. Does that make sense?
BG budget grim where did it go? 2009-09-22 17:39:53 Has anyone asked how with a relatively stable economy over the last 20 or so years(last 18 months exception), the city appears to have no rainy day fund? Has the city spent every dime of taxes collected?
Portage moves toward dissolving police department Not a portage resident 2009-09-22 20:24:29 I have read the comments because I know many people that live in Portage. I cannot believe a bunch of adults can be so childish. Mark Foster may be harsh but he is the only one not afraid to use his name. The rest of you are hiding behind screen names taking stabs at him. Have you ever thought he is doing it to get just the reaction you are giving him. It seems to me you should all be working together to come up with a solution to save your village or figure out what is best for your village instead of spending useless time taking jabs as each other. I (an accountant) have for many years wondered why Portage wasted their money on a police department rather than doing what everyother village is doing and using the county. The rest of us (I live much further away from the Wood County Sheriff then anyone in Portage) survive with the sheriff. As for accidents. I was in an accident on SR 25, your light or speed limit did not help me. Be adults, get together and save you village that so many of you say you love.

Portage moves toward dissolving police department concernedcitizen 2009-09-23 05:10:49 first of all mark foster is not his real name, i also an accountant have watched bruce sheperd spend with noone watching over him and now it is done. his buddies are done with council except to tear it the rest of the way down until their is up. you can speak all you want at council meeting and then they do what they want anyways. the new members are going to have a mess that i think they will not be able to clean it up. sorry for portage.
Portage moves toward dissolving police department ILoveThisStuff 2009-09-23 08:12:25 From what I can see, it appears that a lot of concerned residents are worried about their children having to cross 25 to get on the bus. Has anyone looked at what it would take for the school board to have the bus stop changed or add a second one which would prevent the children from having "to cross State Route 25 at 6:45 am on dark, foggy mornings" as HopeMuse so nicely stated. Things are in motion and even though you cannot change the fact that the light is leaving or the speed limit is increasing you can still stand up and make Portage safe for your children.
To the Editor: He fears loss of Portage police AugustWest 2009-09-23 08:37:49 What "terrible void"? How does Jerry City manage? I think the Wood County Sheriff can do just as good as a job in Portage as they do in Jerry City....

To the Editor: Man tells what it was like at Washington Tea Party enough 2009-09-23 10:48:10 I'm unclear why you assume everyone is interested in you not taking a change of clothes, eating what was in your pockets or the tip the bus driver got? How is missing the OSU game of any real importance? When did the president refer to the crowd as being a violent, angry mob? Fox is part of the media and they covered the story and as did other news organizations. If it didn't get the coverage you thought it deserved or would get,oh well. It's not the media's fault. Your riveting report doesn't really tell much except a lot of smelly, hungry people held signs and walked around and then got on a bus and went home. BTW they missed the OSU game to go and gave a nice tip to the busdriver.
To the Editor: Man tells what it was like at Washington Tea Party brutus 2009-09-23 10:58:04 20 hours? Did you go by way of Florida? Maybe you should have tipped the driver more. Even more people attended the Ohio State game. And it looked like a Klan rally from the 60's. Even your leader Glenn Beck didn't show up.Ha Ha Ha. By the way did you notice the large group of other people that were there? You know the picnic on the lawn put on by the NCNW National Counsil of Negro Women. They only had 500,000 people there. Kind of hard to miss. Of course that Liberal media you guys talk about barely mentioned them. Maybe those were the people yousaw when you did your 360.

To the Editor: Man tells what it was like at Washington Tea Party enough 2009-09-23 13:00:41 What could be negative about someone making claims he doesn't( or wont ) back up? Use you head. Mr. Sapp doesnt feel the need to inform us of why they were gathered, only the media got the story wrong, yet doesnt' tell which media source or who or what the story even was in the first place, the president is a liar when he said we were a violent angry mob, yet doesnt mention when or where the president said this, claims more people were there than 10s of thousands, yet doesn't give an offical total of those present and state how an accurate total was taken or given, They cleaned up after themselves and put their signs in the cans, yet after the event ended stated he got back on the bus and left and really didn't stick around, so how would he really know? What is negative about people making claims that they dont/wont/can't prove,is people like useyourhead seems to take them as facts and spread the lies further. It was impossible to discuss Mr. Sapp's ideas because he didn't give any thoughts in his letter, only thought he is a hero becaused he missed an OSU ball game, didn't take a shower after a long bus ride and only ate what was in his pockets because he didn't bring a backpack with a sack lunch. Sorry Mr. Sapp,I'm staying home the next time too.

BG to slash spending BGres 2009-09-23 14:01:12 I think the city did a fantastic job to reduce the budget without laying off employees. To keep these services, I'm willing to pay 8 extra dollars a month for this levy to pass. I trust the city when it says this is temporary, though I'd be willing to pay it indefinitely if the need arises. There are countless ways to save 8 dollars a month.

To the Editor: Man tells what it was like at Washington Tea Party useyourhead 2009-09-23 14:45:48 enough, I guess you read more into the story than I did. I thought it was just a guy telling about his trip.
BG to slash spending bgresident 2009-09-23 14:45:48 I applaud the city for not laying off employees when it seems that laying off is the "in" thing to do these days to save money. I also will be voting FOR the levy this November. If it means that I have to spend an extra few dollars a month to keep the services that we are accustomed to then so be it. It is a very small price to pay to keep our city safe and clean. I encourage each of the citizens of this city to do their research on what it will cost you and how it will affect you if that levy does not pass. As BGres stated, 8 dollars a month is a very minuscule amount to keep the services that we need and to keep people in their jobs to take care of their families after 2010.
BG to slash spending useyourhead 2009-09-23 14:54:10 The city's plan is well thought out and presented in a way the everyone can understand. Temporary or not, it's only $8 dollars a month. Let's make it an even $10, build a little surplus and give the city employees a raise in the near future. They are going to go a few years without one.
BG to slash spending Rocket 1 2009-09-23 14:57:39 City employees need to take a pay cut. Not filling 2 positions will save "Non-replacement of retiring personnel, including a Public Works equipment operator and a firefighter, for salary/fringe savings of $327,629" That is $163,814.50 per position. That is way out of line compared to the private sector. Get real on the saleries and benifits paid and the cost savings will come. Hey maybe give wintergarden park to the wood county park district, as we also pay for those anyway and eliminate the naturalist on staff.
To the Editor: BG bars urged to never again host Girls Gone Wild What a joke 2009-09-23 15:10:42 I think the young people in this community need to start taking responsibility for their own actions and stop blaming other people for their own actions. Come to our nice downtown on a weekend night and there is nothing different from what happens then from when GGW was in town. I applaud you for standing up for women's rights but the people that participate in these functions are just as disgusting as the owner of GGW. You also cannot fault the bar owners for attempting to make money off of GGW. They have to do something to stand out seeing as there are about 15 bars in a one block radius.

When my mom called me and told me about her missing I prayed for her safe return to her family. I could not beleive it when I got the news about her being found. I can not beleive that anyone could live with themselfs for what they have done to her. My thaughts and prayers go out to her family and hope that they will continue to live life with her in mine and never forget how lucky they were to have a wonderful child like her. Because god only chooses speciel people to have speciel children like Cindy. God Bless you Cindy and her family. I pray for you all that justice will be served to whoever did this to you. You will be in my prayers, Ruth Hernandez who lived at 1418 N. Erie 5 years ago in the big yellow house.
To the Editor: BG bars urged to never again host Girls Gone Wild useyourhead 2009-09-23 15:51:20 It is time people take responsibility for their own actions. The "college-age women" are in fact, adults. I'm sure they know what happens when GGW is in town. brutus, are republicans at fault for everything you don't agree with? hahaha My cable went out, damn republicans!!!!
To the Editor: Man tells what it was like at Washington Tea Party brutus 2009-09-23 16:26:10 Ahh comprehension problems again huh useyourairhead. I thought enough read the story just right and got out of it what I did. Basically lying and whining about the trip. So Paul "useyourhead" Harvey tell us the rest of the story.
To the Editor: Man tells what it was like at Washington Tea Party useyourhead 2009-09-23 17:07:55 hahahaha useyourairhead hahahaha I love 3rd grade humor brutus..... "And some things never change, no ideas, just whine and cry like a baby. Never any input just criticism." Sounds like what you are doing brutus. I'm sure if ,enough, told you the rebublicans are responsible earth quakes you would agree. hahahaha
BG to slash spending useyourhead 2009-09-23 17:24:26 I'm curious Rocket, what is the going rate for an experienced equipment operator? What is the going rate for a private fireman/Paramedic? I guess you didn't read the rest of the sentance. "Non-replacement of retiring personnel, including a Public Works equipment operator and a firefighter, for salary/fringe savings of $327,629. This also includes delayed hiring/realignment of duties of the city planning director, city surveyor and a clerk at municipal court." Yeah, lets get rid of people instead of spending another $8 a month.
To the Editor: Latta urged to support true health care reform Brad Anderson 2009-09-23 17:37:02 Why do all American's DESERVE health care? Is that I right I missed in the preamble?
To the Editor: Abortion, slavery compared Brad Anderson 2009-09-23 17:40:37 You obviously know where I stand on the issue, brutus, but I couldn't agree more with you. That "logic" makes zero sense.
To the Editor: Latta urged to support true health care reform useyourhead 2009-09-23 17:56:38 Not only do they deserve health care, it will be illegal not to have health care.
To the Editor: Abortion, slavery compared useyourhead 2009-09-23 18:05:26 It is a stretch to understand but I think we get the point. A black man in africa on a given day is free, the same black man in america on the same day was a slave. A 30 week old baby has rights because it is out of the womb, while a 30 week old fetus can be destroyed. Location location location.
Elmwood graduate reportedly dies from swine flu Lorri Kurtz 2009-09-23 18:19:49 I would just like to say to the family I'm really sorry for your loss. I didn't know her but she was to young.
BG to slash spending BGres 2009-09-23 18:31:02 The key word in the previously referenced sentence is INCLUDING- this does not mean the two jobs of Public Works equipment operator and firerighter are the solely responsible for the cost of $376,629. The salaries and benefits offered to city employees are no more than other cities of this size in this area.
To the Editor: Latta urged to support true health care reform brutus 2009-09-23 18:37:33 The Constitution of the United States of America We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. Promote the general welfare Brad. We the people Brad, not I the person. If you don't think we should help each other out in this country then go to a country where it is every man for himself. Bye.
To the Editor: Man tells what it was like at Washington Tea Party brutus 2009-09-23 18:44:16 There is actually some truth to the earthquake thing. We have a satelite that can shoot a laser beam to actually cause an earthquake. And it was developed under a Repub administration. But it had to be a Dem who thought how to do it because most Repubs don't know how to spell Physics let alone apply it.
Mark Evans DLF 2009-09-23 19:28:10 Actually, Mark graduated from BGHS in 1972, not 1962. I'm pretty sure he graduated from BGSU (with an education degree) as well; I know he did his student teaching, and was very good at it. He was a good guy, especially well-liked among the commuter students who spent a lot of time in the Commuter Center in the basement of Moseley Hall. He will be missed.
To the Editor: Latta urged to support true health care reform patriot 2009-09-23 21:54:39 This is the greatest nation in the world. EVERYONE should have healthcare. The elderly shouldn't have to choose between medication and groceries. I have healthcare, and I can't imagine having to worry about how much it's going to cost me if I have to take my kids to the doctor. Yes, we the people.
Elmwood graduate reportedly dies from swine flu Nancy Hammon 2009-09-23 23:05:00 I have been praying for the Young Family since I heard of their loss of precious daughter Kimberly. I extend my deepest condolences to you. May God be with all of you.
To the Editor: He fears loss of Portage police Mark Foster 2009-09-24 04:38:48 Not a single officer from Portage will be missed, let the real cops at the sheriffs dept. handle the law enforcement. I certainly don't want to see any of my tax dollars going to support these clowns.
Circle Ks plan to stay open during remodeling work Marlene 2009-09-24 05:03:46 I agree somewhat, hangar! BG doesn't need so many stores owned by one company. As to the restaurants, what's wrong with going to Sam B's, DiBenedetto's Family Bistro, or Easy Street? All are locally owned restaurants, and they have great food!
To the Editor: BG bars urged to never again host Girls Gone Wild Marlene 2009-09-24 05:12:57 Mr. Francis is in deep legal trouble thanks to the underhanded tactics to him and his cronies. To verbally harass and to nearly physically assault people who were peacefully and legally protesting these sleazoids is reprehensible and disgusting. GGW is exploitative to the extreme and I wonder what the reaction would be if a group of women would get young college boys drunk and coerce them to drop trou and expose their genitals and have lurid sex scenes with other drunk boys?
To the Editor: Abortion, slavery compared Marlene 2009-09-24 05:20:15 Try reading your Constitution, Brian! Only people *born* in the US are considered citizens... not those *conceived*! It amazes me that those who cannot bear children are dictating to those who can what they can do with their bodies! Whatever happened to the conservative doctrine of less government in people's lives? Ohhhhh that's right, I forgot -- conservatives *demand* the special right to dictate what sex people have in the bedroom, who can be discriminated on the job, mandatory motherhood, ad nauseum. The minute genetic males can become pregnant naturally is the time men can start dictating to women what they can do to their pregnancies!
Elmwood graduate reportedly dies from swine flu Sharon Stoots 2009-09-24 05:33:29 I had Kimi as a student in the first grade. She's a very bright student! She was a sweetie, full of passion and compassion. I remember that she invited the whole class to her birthday party at her home in the mobile home park behind Kroger's. Her father made a maze for the children out of cardboard boxes. The day happened to be the same day that President Bush Senior was riding through town on a train. We took one of the big cardboard boxes and made a HUGE sign saying BGCA first graders welcome President Bush! and we all stood there and held it up as he passed by. AND he waved at us as the children all waved and giggled back. WHAT FUN... Kimi's whole life was an adventure and FUN!!! she will be missed!!! We are praying for all of you! Love you guys!!! Mrs.Stoots

Elmwood graduate reportedly dies from swine flu Corbin Genson 2009-09-24 06:25:08 Kimi was a good friend and class mate of my stepdaughter, Kayla Isaacs. She used to come over to our house when she was in high school with Kayla and that's how I got to meet her. I thought Kimi was an exceptionally bright and talented young lady. We are deeply saddened by her passing. My family and I are praying for her family.

To the Editor: Latta urged to support true health care reform useyourhead 2009-09-24 07:22:24 In a perfect world everyone would have health care, there wouldn't be poverty. This is not a perfect world. It's never going to happen. The best plan in the world could be in place and there are still going to be flaws and people will die from lack of or bad health care. The Framers of the Constitution were VERY PRECISE in their wording. They wanted to "establish justice" and so the set up the court system. They wanted to "insure domestic tranquility", and so they set up articles in the Constitution that describe how the States would interact etc. They wanted to "provide for the common defence", and so they set up the Army and Navy. But the "general Welfare" phrase is preceded by the word "promote". Promote and is encourage. Like when the Declaration says the people have the right to the Pursuit of happiness. Thus they did NOT establish a welfare system.
