Paul C. Ladd VFW Auxiliary 1148
The auxiliary held their regular meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at 719 S. Main, Bowling Green.
All yearly donations have been met. The auxiliary has held a few bake sales at fish fries and a combined garage, bake and crafts sale Oct. 28 to raise money. The last sales proceeds will be divided with the post.
The Nov. 18 auxiliary meeting will be inspection by District 1. There will be a potluck at 6 p.m. and meeting at 7. Members are invited to attend.
Also slated is a Veterans Day dinner this Saturday, at 6:30 p.m. at the post home, for both post and auxiliary members.
Membership dues are to be in to the auxiliary by Dec. 15 so as to ensure that the member in question will not be in default on Jan. 1.
Alva N. Sidle Legion Unit 232
GRAND RAPIDS - The four 2013 delegates to Buckeye Girls State gave their reports prior to the Nov. 7 auxiliary meeting. They were very impressed with the knowledge they attained at BGS.
Judy Thomas opened the regular meeting with eight members present. She reported the unit has 136 paid members, with a goal of 215.
There were 58 "cookie and soup" quarts brought in for the Food Bank.
Members discussed the new plan of action that auxiliary units are doing instead of green reports. Programs are now grouped by pods. There are three mission-related pods: veteran/military support, family support and youth development. The other two are membership pod and an administrative pod. Programs within each pod are alike in some way so as to make working them easier, especially for units with fewer members.
JoAnna Studer's membership application and transfers for Connie Dunn from Unit 340 and Jeannie Jeffers from Unit 332 were approved.
The unit signed Christmas cards to be sent to the veterans serving our country.
Among payments made were $150 each to Jim Garber for Otsego Elementary school supplies, to ALA Department of Ohio for Toledo VA women, and to Sandusky OVH women; $77 to Gloria Kutchenriter for Bloodmobile; $306 to ALA Department for poppies; and $50 to Grand Rapids Library.
Unit members will bring socks, gloves and underwear for the children at the elementary school instead of a gift exchange at the next meeting, slated for Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
The post fish fry is tonight from 5 to 7. Cost is $10 per person.
There will be a dance to benefit Honor Flight on Saturday. Doors open at 7 and the dance begins at 8.
