Salon 741, 8/40LUCKEY – The 8/40 Wood County Salon No. 741 held their potluck dinner and
installation of officers on Sept. 12 at Luckey Legion Post hall.The 2013-2014 officers were installed by
Denise Bossetti, chapeau departmental d’ Ohio, from Huron. The officers are: L’ secretaire-caissiere, Betty
Briggs from Perrysburg; L’ concierge, Tammy Firsdon, Bowling Green; Le demi chapeau deuxieme, Darlene
Hanneman, Kalida; Le demi chapeau premier, Gloria Verbeke from McClure; L’archiviste, Anne Michel from
Pemberville; L’aumonier, Shirley Davis, Luckey; Le chapeau, Patricia Agner, Ottawa; and L’ avocate, Darline
Weaver, Weston.Tammy Firsdon, who is the new le demi chapeau premier national, gave the report from the
Summer La March held in Sandusky. Salon 741 did very well on awards and trophies collected for their work
for the prevention and control of lung and respiratory diseases in children.The next meeting will be held in
Van Wert on Oct. 10 at the home of Alice Pettijohn. Be ready for cookie dough sales again this fall.Alpha
Zeta MasterAlpha Zeta Master Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi met Sept. 24 at the Bowling Green Country Club with 10
members present. Following lunch, President Colleen Smith opened the business meeting.Nancy Germann reported
the progress of Exemplar Night. It will be held Oct. 24 at Klotz Cafe. Rose Emmerich reviewed the jobs of
each member and told the menu. Each member is responsible for a dessert. Chapter members are to arrive by
4:30 p.m. to set up. A discussion was held regarding the number of prizes required for bingo. Plans will be
finalized at the next business meeting.Smith thanked Germann and the social committee for the annual picnic
held Sept. 21.MaryAnn Book passed around a list of items needed by First Step during the coming year. Each
member will bring items to the next business meeting.Marilyn Pahl gave a program on Flags. She suggested
that members look around their neighborhood at the variety of flags flying.A social hour followed.The next
business meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 8. Rose Emmerich will give the program.Friendly Town and Country
Garden ClubThe September meeting was held at the Whitehouse Inn where members gathered for lunch.In the
absence of President Carole Rives, Patsy Vogelsong held a short business meeting. Also present for the
meeting were members Ruth Ann Beaverson, Royce Beaverson, Dorothy Cromley, Karen Dauer, Diane Guthrie and
Marg Richendollar.Gloria Green celebrated a September birthday.After the lunch and meeting, six of the
members went to the Butterfly House on Obee Road in Whitehouse. There they sat and visited while watching
the many colorful butterflies. They also visited the gift shop.The next meeting will be Oct. 10. The group
will go to Panera Bread on Airport Highway for lunch, and then to Nature’s Corner around 1:30 for a program
and tour of the nursery.Visitors are always welcome. Anyone who would like to join the garden club may come
to Nature’s Corner and let Rives know that they are interested.Mid-Morning BellesPEMBERVILLE – The Sept. 25
meeting of the Mid-Morning Belles Homemakers Club was hosted by Eloise Reitzel with nine members in
attendance.Carolyn Borcherding opened the meeting with a reading, "Random Acts of Kindness." Heidi
Phillips from the Wood County Extension Office presented an informative program on "Salt Savvy."
She gave everyone a sample of an herb mixture she made which can be used as a salt substitute.A report was
given about the district meeting held Sept. 24 at the local extension office.The Belles group will travel to
Penta County for their next meeting on Oct. 23 to enjoy a lunch cooked by the culinary students.
